About 800 runners are expected for Saturday's inaugural National Marathon, a much smaller number than the five-thousand entries organizers were originally boasting. The race comes only six months after permits were approved. That made for a relatively brief time for marketing. There were also limits due to the four-hour 30-minute qualifying standard that eliminated slower runners.
