When Vicki Cross of Berlin ran the Boston marathon last month she had two goals: to run the 26.2 miles in less than three hours and 45 minutes; and to keep smiling the whole way. She managed both.

A sickly child, Michelle McCollum wasn’t supposed to finish life much less finish a marathon. She not only finished the Boston Marathon, but finished with a very respectable time of 3 hours, 37 minutes and 4 seconds.

   Fastest Flying Pig Marathon Ever (The Cincinnati Post)
Cecil Franke, 38, of Dublin, Ind., set a course record in the eighth annual race by finishing the 26.2-mile course in 2:20:26. The previous record of 2:21:15 was set by Elly Rono of Evansville, Ind., in 1999, the inaugural Flying Pig.
 
   Centerville coach wins Flying Pig Marathon (Pal-Item)
Centerville High School cross country coach Cecil Franke won the 2006 Flying Pig Marathon in 2:20:25.

World marathon champion Samson Ramadhani will lead an expedition to the snow-capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro next week to raise awareness of the fight against child hunger. Ramadhani, one of the top Tanzanian athletes who won the gold medal in the men's marathon at the Commonwealth Games in March, will begin the five-day climb on May 16.
