Some 3000 charity runners, who solicit pledges of cash against their efforts to complete the marathon, increased the amount of money they raised from 2004 by 34%, recruiting 20% more runners for their causes.

   Boston Marathon Course Change is Uphill Battle (Milford Daily News)
Veteran runners weighed in yesterday about the possible changes in the last mile of the historic course, which is already considered by many to be the most punishing in the world. The Boston Athletic Association is expected to announce this week that the route is changing at Milepost 26 to bring runners under the Massachusetts Avenue bridge, which would avoid the busy intersection with Commonwealth Avenue, but add another hill.

   Boston Marathon Adopts Wave Start (Race Results Weekly)
The Boston Athletic Association announced that the Boston marathon in 2006 will have a wave start to improve the efficiency of the event. All participants, with the exception of athletes with disabilities and the elite women, will be sent off in two waves of approximately 10,000 runners each separated by a 30 minute gap. The first of the waves will go off at the race's traditional noon starting time.
