Jose Rios of Spain won the 61st Lake Biwa Marathon, the oldest continued marathon in Japan, with a 2:09:15 run. Pace picks up after slow start.

   Kamindo King of the Hills at Little Rock Marathon (Arkansas Democrat Gazette)
Kamindo, 23, a native of Kenya, was at his strongest on the 26. 2-mile course’s most difficult points, outpacing his opponents on the three biggest hills of the course to win by more than seven minutes in 2 hours, 19 minutes, 48 seconds.

   Demerits of Kilimanjaro Marathon (African News Dimension)
Kenyans dominated the full marathon. Good local athletes did not run because they are eyeing the Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne, Australia from March 15. One of the marathon rules says that a marathoner is entitled to rest for three months after running, and this is why capable athletes feared to compete in the Moshi race.

Kenyan runner Joshua Kipchumba won the 21st edition of the BMW Malta Marathon clocking a time of 2hrs 21 minutes. He was almost a couple of minutes shy of the marathon record set last year by Tunisian Abdelkebir Marchane who was also the winner of the last three editions of the race.

   Rain or Shine, Napa Valley Marathon to run Sunday (Napa Valley Register)
Information on the marathon is given. The pre-race favorites appear to be Alex Tilson — a Stanford graduate and Burlingame resident who ran in the 2002 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and owns a personal record of 2:21:18 — and Joshua Small, a former Fresno Pacific University runner and NAIA Academic All-American from San Jose who has a PR of 2:26:14.
