The Highland resident, who missed last year's Bayshore Marathon with a knee injury, returned Saturday and won her sixth women's title.

Near 90 degree temperatures spark marathon organizers to shut the course down. It was the first time in the 12 year history the marathon was shut down - in fact the organizer said to me he's from Florida at that "this weather is hot".

At the start of the Med-City Marathon, the temperature had already reached 80 degrees and by the 11:30AM the recommendation was made that the course should be closed. The high for the day at Rochester airport was recorded at 94 degrees.

Oregon Tech junior Amy Bricco turned in the best performance for the Hustlin' Owls on the final day of the NAIA national track and field championships. Bricco finished 14th in Saturday's women's marathon race.

   Women Record Shattered at ING Ottawa Marathon (New England Runner)
A 22-year old record was shattered in the women's marathon today as Canadian Lioudmilla Kortchaguina crossed the finish line of the 2006 ING Ottawa Marathon with a new course - and personal - record with a time of 2:29:42.
 
 Vermont City Marathon

   Pelletier, Westerling Win Vermont City Marathon (Burlington Free Press)
Matt Pelletier of Warwick, R.I., and Heidi Westerling of Narragnsett, R.I., captured the 18th Keybank Vermont City Maraton on Sunday. Pelletier, 24, toured the course in an unofficials time of 2 hours, 24 minutes, 26 seconds. Michael Wardian, 32, of Arlington, Va., was the runner-up for the second straight year with an unofficial time of 2:28:20.

   Capital City Marathon Seen as a Success (The Olympian)
Race organizers took a bit of a gamble this year, creating a new race course that took the runners from downtown Olympia out to Boston Harbor and back, replacing a relatively flat course with a hilly one. In revising the course, they added a lot of beautiful scenery of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains and other eye-pleasing rural landscapes.
