On a hot and humid day, 19 year-old Kenyan, Jynocel Basweti, set a new course record winning the Buffalo Marathon in 2:19:15. Running with two other Kenyans for the first half of the race, before Basweti pulled away at 16 miles.

   Mad City Marathon Notes: Marathon Suits Him Just Fine (The Capital Times)
With all the different events and age groups that make up the Mad City Marathon, more than 100 competitors could point to the results and call themselves winners. Mostafa Kechmy was not one of them, but he should have been. Kechmy, a 49-year-old from Kenosha, drew stares and laughs throughout his 13.1-mile trek through the half-marathon as he ran the entire race wearing a suit.

   Mad City Marathon: Kurian, Hess Go Distance (Wisconsin State Journal)
The 27-year old already had voiced some displeasure with his Mad City Marathon finishing time of 2 hours, 41 minutes and 47 seconds because it was about 8 minutes slower than it took him to cover the 26.2-mile course last year. Kurian, though, would offer no such dissatisfaction about his place.

Embarrassed organizers wound up inventing times and paying compensation for the "estimated performances" of 14 lead runners who went off course and cut about 400 metres off Sunday's Ottawa marathon nine kilometres into the 42-kilometre race.

   Runners compensated for marathon mishap at Ottawa Marathon (CBC Canada)
A lead group of 14 runners was steered the wrong direction at the 2006 Ottawa Maraton, shaving 400 meters off of their marathon distance. After the event, officials were pressed to make a ruling on who was the winner in the event. The win was awarded to runners who completed the correct course, while the other leaders were left on the books with asterisks next to their names and were compensated for the mishap.
