Gretchen Hayes was still fuming Monday afternoon about the mix-up in communication that led some police agencies to stop runners from finishing Sunday’s Community First Fox Cities Marathon in heavy rain and lightning while others were allowed to keep going. Marathon officials said Monday that a central communications center will be in place next year so there will be no confusion in the future.

Rono, the 1998 winner, took charge and finished in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 18 seconds. He would have won an additional $10,000 if he had established the event’s course record of 2:15:52, established by Eric Morrison in 1995.

Japan's Olympic champion Mizuki Noguchi won the Berlin marathon and set an Asian record in the process on Sunday with the third fastest women's time. Race results and comments by the runners are given.
