Get Ready to Rock 'n' Roll in San Diego
Register for the Eighth Annual Marathon Before Jan. 31 and Save
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2005) – It's time to act on that New Year's
resolution, lace up those running shoes and start training. The 2005
edition of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego is just over four months
away -- on June 5 -- and participants who register for the marathon by Jan.
31 can save $15 on their entry fee. The $70 early registration fee for the
marathon goes up to $85 on February 1.
This year marks the eighth running of the event that was voted Best
Marathon by CompetitorMagazine. Televised locally and nationally and open
to runners and walkers from novice to elite, more than 40 live bands line
the scenic course that passes a number of San Diego highlights. From the
start line in Balboa Park to the finish line at the Marine Corps Recruit
Depot, participants will be treated to everything from rock and reggae to
blues and hip hop. Adding to the excitement will be more than 2,000 local
high school cheerleaders competing in the Spirit on the Course competition.
After a rockin' finish line festival, the day is capped off with a
post-race concert at Coors Amphitheatre highlighting a major rock 'n' roll
headliner. In the last seven years, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon has hosted
Chris Isaak, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Hootie & the Blowfish, Chicago, Pat
Benatar, and Huey Lewis and the News. All race participants and volunteers
receive complimentary entry to the show.
The marathon weekend also includes a two-day Health & Fitness Expo
displaying the latest in gear, services and apparel. More than 100 exhibits
feature free samples, interactive displays and exciting sweepstakes. The
Official Rock 'n' Roll Merchandise Store is located at the Expo, plus
shoppers will find running shoes, sports apparel, watches, sunglasses and
more. The Health & Fitness Expo will be held Fri., June 3 from 11am – 7pm
and Sat., June 4 from 9am-5pm at the San Diego Convention Center. It is
free and open to the public and all participants must pick up their race
number, timing chip, goodie bag and t-shirt during that time.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is limited to 20,000 entries, including a
significant percentage reserved for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team
In Training participants, so participants are encouraged to sign up early.
