        Cellcom Green Bay Marathon kicks off 2005 race season

December 29, 2004

Green Bay, Wis.- The 2005 Cellcom Marathon season officially begins with a 
kick off party on January 5, 2005 at the Best Western Midway.  The event 
starts with a 5:30 p.m. social and includes early bird race registration, 
food and door prizes.  Programming includes a slide show from the 2004 
race, a 2005 course overview and introduction of the Marathon for Everyone 
Training Runs sponsored by Prevea.

The highlight of the evening will be a presentation by American running 
icon, Dick Beardsley.  Beardsley, also known as "the Beards," has run the 
fourth fastest U.S. men's marathon time in history and waged an epic duel 
with Alberto Salazar in the 1982 Boston Marathon.  In addition to being a 
two-time Olympic Trials marathon qualifier and a member of Team New 
Balance, he is a motivational speaker, a successful television and radio 
personality in Detroit Lakes, Minn. and an expert fishing guide.

May 22, 2005 marks the sixth anniversary of Green Bay's only long distance 
run.  Over the past five years, the race has generated more than $100,000 
in proceeds for local charities.  The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon seeks to 
create community spirit through a world-class marathon for people of all 
athletic abilities.
