GRAMMY-award winning Ozomatli to headline
Rock 'n' Roll Marathon post-race concert
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 3, 2006) – Known for delivering energetic live
performances that feature an eclectic blend of musical styles, Ozomatli is
set to headline the ninth annual Rock 'n' Roll Marathon post-race concert
at Coors Amphitheatre on June 4, 2006. The concert culminates a weekend of
running and music featuring 20,000 runners and walkers, and more than 40
live bands positioned along the 26.2-mile course.

opening act performing at 6:30 p.m. followed by the marathon awards
ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
General admission tickets may be purchased for $25 online at the Rock 'n'
Roll Marathon website RnRmarathon.com thru May 26, at the Health & Fitness
Expo June 2-3, and at Coors Amphitheatre box office on June 4. All race

Formed in the mid 1990s and named after the Aztec god of dance, Ozomatli,
or ‘Ozo’ for short, performs a mix of hi-octane pan-Latino dance music
mixing elements of ska, samba, salsa, punk and hip hop to varying degrees,
then tosses in a good dose of funk, Tex Mex, swing and soul.
It is difficult to label this group. As diverse as its members, the band’s
music fits in bins such as conscious hip- hop, Latin, rock and jazz. After
10 years together this Los Angeles collective has honed its live
performances to near perfection that result in an exciting experience for
their audiences. Don’t be surprised if they bound off the stage to carry
music directly to the crowd.
Ozomatli picked up a GRAMMY for Best Latin Rock/Alternative album in 2005
with its breakthrough album Street Signs. The opening, Believe is a mix of
Middle Eastern strings and Latino funk-rock, Who's To Blame" has a swirling
snake-charmer melody alongside a socially conscious rap, and the Beatle Bob
remix of "Ya Viene El Sol" captures the out of control, good-time spirit of
their live shows.
The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon celebrates its ninth running and has been voted
Best Marathon by Competitor Magazine. Open to runners and walkers from
novice to elite, more than 40 live bands entertain participants along the
scenic course that passes a number of San Diego highlights. From the start
line in Balboa Park to the finish line at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot,
participants are treated to everything from rock and reggae to blues and
hip-hop. Adding to the excitement will hundreds of local high school
cheerleaders competing in the "Spirit on the Course" competition.
