REGISTRATION OPENS FOR MEDTRONIC TWIN CITIES MARATHON
WITH KICK-OFF PARTY AND ONE MILE RACE
(Minneapolis, MN) - Registration begins tomorrow for the Medtronic Twin
Cities Marathon with a Kick-Off Party and one-mile race in downtown
Minneapolis. Both events take place in the evening, with registration
Kick-Off from 5-8 p.m. at Peavey Plaza, and the first wave of the Medtronic
TC 1 Mile leaving Loring Park at 6:45 p.m.
"We are excited about our 25th Anniversary year and look forward to the
next twenty-five years with the same passion for running," said Virginia
Brophy Achman, Executive Director. "We have a great new partnership with
Medtronic and are busy making plans to further "wow" our participants with
extra perks. This year our participants will enjoy runner tracking, a
jumbotron at the finish with live web streaming, enhanced course
entertainment and a Brooks technical finisher shirt," said Brophy Achman.
The Kick-Off Party has a new downtown location this year at Peavey Plaza,
1111 Nicollet Mall. Now in its eighth year, the Kick-Off has become as much
a tradition as the marathon itself. Marathon officials hope to raise
awareness about the registration Kick-Off to make sure those who want to
participate don't miss their chance. For those who can't make it or are
from out of town, online registration begins at 12:01a.m., Wednesday, April
26 at www.mtcmarathon.org.
"Last year eighty-two percent our marathon registration was completed
online and the trend appears to be growing. We offer the Kick-Off Party as
a way to draw people out and mingle with fellow runners," said Brophy
Achman. The race usually fills in a matter of weeks and the 25th
Anniversary field of 10,500 is expected to fill faster than ever.
Kick-Off festivities include the 2nd Annual Medtronic TC 1 Mile. The race
motto this year is "it all starts with the first step." Runners of all
ages and abilities are encouraged to take their first step with this race
and work their way up to other distances. The race already has more than
1,000 registered and is set to start in Loring Park and finish on Nicollet
Mall near the Kick-Off Party. Registration for the one-mile is available
race night in Loring Park.
The public is also invited to be part of the festivities by joining one of
the Official Cheers Zones located at Brit's Pub, The Dakota, The Local,
Masa, and McCormick & Schmick and enjoy happy hour while raising a glass to
a thrilling race.
