I agree with Mr. Torres; if people run in a marathon for crowd support, then they are certainly doing it for the wrong reason. This was my first marathon, and I enjoyed every minute. The chorus they had at mile 26 will stay in my memory for the rest of my life. As far as the comment about Disney being in it for the money, the last I checked, they are a business. I would strongly suggest that everyone do the Disney Marathon once in their life. For the rest of the whiners, just "man up."

My wife and I ran the Disney Marathon for the first time and we enjoyed it very much. This was my 3rd marathon overall and I let some of the negative comments about this one lessen my expectations. I'm here to tell you that there was plenty of entertainment and a lot of enthusiastic people throughout the course. The part about there not being some support during "some miles" should not be a surprise; remember, when we train, there is absolutely no one around. It's just you and the road, so do not expect someone there for 26.2 miles for our personal gain. Thanks for all the support from the folks who yelled our name, the choir was awesome, the cheerleaders, the bands... and on and on. Will attempt the Goofy Challenge this year and enjoy the moment.

This was my fifth marathon and my second at Walt Disney. The course can be a bit boring in the null areas, but the cast members more than make up for it. Running the 15th Anniversary marathon with its special medallion was a blast. It was a long way to travel for a race, but it was worth it.

Don't sign up for Disney and then get pneumonia. Even with a doctor's note, they won't give an inch. No refund - even partial, no changing to the half, no next year entry or dollars off. Disney is money hungry, no doubt about it. I ran it twice (the third time I just ran 10 miles of it since I was registered, but I couldn't do it and, well, see above). Will never run any events of theirs again.

This was the best marathon I've done. Running through the theme parks with Disney characters cheering us on was absolutely brilliant. I loved the fact that there was always entertainment, whether it be music, live entertainment or Disney characters to keep us amused. It was fantastic traveling from Australia and not knowing anyone but having people cheering us on by name (we had our names printed on our bibs). If it wasn't for the expense of getting there, I would be back there each year.

This was my first Disney Marathon and it was great. It was a fun course to run and there was plenty of encouragement along the way. Medical support was always visible and ready to help if needed. The only problem I had with the race was that by the time the slower runners got to the aid stations, there was no food left. Other than that, the whole experience was wonderful and I am returning for '09.

This was my first marathon, and it inspired me to keep going. As a beginner I was quite anxious and nervous, and there was plenty of entertainment, encouragement and fuel to keep forging on. The medical attention was excellent (I learned that Biofreeze was a very good thing), the course layout was simple (very few inclines), plenty of food and water, and the medal and tee-shirt rocked. I will definitely make an attempt to do this one again.

"Improved organization, great "fun run"" (about: 2008)

I ran Disney in '02 and swore I'd never run it again because of the boring course and lack of organization. However, I wanted to run the 15th anniversary and Goofy Challenge so I was back in '08. I was very impressed with the organization improvement. The transportation for the entire weekend was great. The expo needs improvement. It was too small; needs a few more vendors with a variety of products and needs to be in a larger space. It was much too cramped and hard to just walk through and view the booths. Also the official merchandise ran out of certain sizes fast! They need to make more to last through the entire weekend or make sure you get to the expo early before they sell out. The course can get boring at times but the spectators and volunteers were FANTASTIC! I was surprised at the number of volunteers and cast members that were along the course cheering the runners on. This was a big improvement from '02.

Since I was attempting the Goofy, I ran a slower, comfortable pace for the marathon and enjoyed the course, spectators and fellow runners along the way. I've run 20 marathons and this was the most fun I've ever had. The 5-hour pace leader Marie was FANTASTIC! She couldn't have done a better job keeping everyone on pace, telling stories, giving tips and just making it FUN. Kudos to Marie!

The water/aid/medical stops were well placed and very well staffed by friendly volunteers. I always make a point to thank the volunteers; without them we wouldn't be able to run. The finisher's medals are bar none the greatest! I've run better marathons but Disney is a great destination event for the family and I'll be back for the 5th anniversary Goofy Challenge in 2010.

"I will be back in 2009" (about: 2008)

6-10 previous marathons | 3 Disney World Marathons
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This was my third Disney Marathon and the best yet. I will agree it does not compare to Chicago or New York City - BUT it is a great time.

Pros

I love the 6:00 start - it allows you to get in a couple of hours of running before the sun hits you.
I like the 15th anniversary medal.
The organization is GREAT.
Easy check in and packet pick up when I came on Saturday.
It is always fun to run through EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios.
PLENTY of water and PowerAde on course - much improved over the prior two years.
Whole bananas on the course - TWICE!!!!
Bio-Freeze stations on the course for sore legs.
Easy gear check in a pick up.
Plenty of port-a-pots at the start and on the course - I am sorry I used the trees BUT it made my run faster.
Music along the roads.
Improved expo - still needs some work (needs more space for more vendors).
Easy to meet your family after you are done.
Easy and close parking.

Cons
Some very dead areas but it is 26.2 miles you cannot be entertained constantly.
God bless the TNT runners but five hours of 'Go Team' gets old - BUT I do admire their fund raising passion so I can live with it. 'Go Team!'

I will be back in 2009, as I have already signed up for my second Goofy.

"Poor organization; even poorer race expo" (about: 2008)

3 previous marathons
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 4

We've done this race twice now and this year was worse than the last. The organization of the race expo would work fine for a 3,000-person race but not when you have two 12,000-person races; the race merchandise is marginal, and, believe it or not, Disney ran out of medals and we are still waiting to hear back from them (though they haven't responded to any of our emails at all in the past month). And to charge to sit in crappy stands at the finish line is just money grubbing from one of the richest organizations going. Am I bitter? You bet.
