"Go Goofy!" (about: 2008)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Disney World Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

If you want a great time, go out and get your Mickey medal! I did the Goofy's Challenge (1/2 marathon and then the full). The 1/2 course leaves something to be desired; the vast majority of time is spent on the service roads, with very little time through the parks. If you're going out there for just one race, put in the extra training and do the full.

The full marathon was a ton of fun! The bad: A lot of the roads were pretty narrow for that many people, a good number of overpass mountains (if you're a flat-lander like me, they were mountains) - especially between miles 18 and 22, and I spoke with a lot of people who didn't like the warm weather (being from an area with similar weather patterns, it was normal day to me). And the final, biggest complaint: no beer at the finish! That's right... I have to get very picky to find some negative comments, so you know they run it well!

The water stops were plentiful and frequent, the course was very scenic and enjoyable, with lots of characters out, and plenty going on. Transportation is very easy, you just walk out to the bus stop and a bus shows up and drops you off at the start. Just as easy going back. Also, corral placement was very thorough and thought out.

Go do this marathon! A few extra notes: if you have someone watching at the finish, spring for the extra 20 bucks and buy them a spectator's ticket; it guarantees a seat on the grand stand and has a refreshment tent for them. My wife loved it. Also, if you have a family, it's a great time for the family vacation; there were no wait times at any of the park rides, and we did parks in half days (no kids with us, but still).

Make a nice vacation out of it. This was one of the most enjoyable, downright fun marathons I've ever done.

Ran full marathon for the first time. It was an unbelievable experience from expo to finish line. Volunteers were fabulous everywhere. Thanks to all of them for their support. Spectators were great and cheered us on by name (thanks Disney for putting names on bibs!). Plenty of water stops and med tents. Bananas were a plus at mile 13 too. Doing the Goofy next year!! Got the fever when I saw the new Goofy medal. Awesome...!! The 15-year anniversary medal was fantastic!!! Seeing my kids faces when I crossed the line will live with me forever. Once you do it, you'll be back for more!!! Thanks Disney!!!

"Run slow and have a great time!" (about: 2008)

My first marathon, but not my first road race. Disney exceeded all my expectations for my first marathon. Being a slow runner, I was afraid that they would run out of water and food. However, that was not the case, there was plenty of water, PowerAde, fruit and chocolate - so much so that I ran through some water stops without stopping, and was full by the end of my marathon.

Disney gives you a bib with your name on it, and the fans cheering me on by name really gave me a boost! Lots of volunteers on the course along with Disney characters and workers who were all cheering you on. Bring your camera!

Running through the parks, they let you use the bathrooms in the parks, which means flush toilets!

Goody bag and expo did not have enough freebies....

Stay at a Disney Hotel and take the free shuttle to and from the race. Makes things much easier! They tell you to be on the bus by 4 a.m., but we got on a bus at 4:15 and were there in plenty of time.

"Loved it this year!" (about: 2008)

I did the Goofy for the second time to celebrate my 40th and the birth of my daughter, and added the Family 5K (with my 5-year-old son) to boost my mileage over the 40 mile-mark! What a blast! I have run Disney before and suffered from the heat and lack of water - this year was such an improvement on the water and PowerAde availability!

Yes, the race starts early - got it.
Yes, it gets hot and humid in FL - got it.
Yes, the medals are awesome! The 15-year Mickey is art.
Yes, the route is inspiring!
Yes, the characters and spectators are incredible.
But the best part is the incredible runners who share their inspiration and motivation. I love the people with pictures on their singlets, or notes of inspiration on their shirts.

If you do one race that's just FUN, do Disney!

Go fast, run hard, go GOOFY!

"Goofy Rocks!!!!!!!" (about: 2008)

My first Goofy experience: Disney's race is as well organized and as fun as their parks. Expo was good, but get there early to avoid the big crowds; pre-race transportation was great; organization was great; the volunteers were fantastic; and there were plenty of fluids and medical stops - and even a couple of spots for food. Great, fun run.

This was my first time doing the Disney Marathon. I was overcome with emotion, from the start line to the finish line. I took advantage of many photos with the Disney characters... it was so much fun. The water stops were plentiful, and the volunteers were great, as they cheered on us Canadian runners. I want to thank Mike, the 5:30 pacer, for his encouragement.... HE WAS AWESOME and helped to get me across the finish line. The bands were great - well organized. My husband did the half marathon and feels the same. We will be back... maybe for GOOFY next! Thank you so much to all who participated in this awesome marathon.

"The single best run event I have been to" (about: 2008)

Disney managed this event as Disney does everything: first-class. Great course, great volunteers, great support, great crowd, etc., etc. Very well done. The only improvement is to allow spectators and runners to access the parks at either a reduced rate or free. It seemed just a tad too profit-oriented... family members were required to purchase tickets to see runners in the parks. This is an expensive event if you stay on Disney property.

"Great Marathon" (about: 2008)

I thought everything about this race was first class. The organization was excellent - if there were any hitches, I didn't see them. I stayed on Disney property, and the buses to the expo and race ran regularly - I never waited more than a couple of minutes for a bus. Plenty of water on the course, along with stops for fruit, Vaseline, candy, and gels. The medal was great as expected. Yes, there were some stretches on the highway, but on those stretches, there were bands, cheerleaders, DJs, etc., which made the time go by.

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon. I picked Disney because I read there would be plenty of walkers and "first-timers."

A bonus was that my family was able to enjoy the parks while I was preparing for the marathon.

The race started in humid conditions and I bonked at around mile 15 - being from a northern state, I was not trained to run in the humid conditions.

I trained to finish and I did and had a great time doing it.

There are some long boring parts of the course connecting the parks, but the support you get while in the parks is unbeatable. A nice touch was having your name on your bib. I could retire if I had a dollar for every time my name was called during the race. (Lol!)

"excellent" (about: 2008)

Everything was run very efficiently. Packet pick-up was very smooth. Transportation from the hotels - while very early - was very smooth. There were plenty of water stops and good volunteer and fan support. The long stretches between parks was not a big deal (where do you find 26.2 miles of the perfect course anyway?). Overall, I thought this was an excellent race from start to finish.
