"Disappointed at the lack of food at the end" (about: 2006)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 The race was great, and I can't thank Disney enough; HOWEVER, I expected a large, nice spread of food at the finish line and was shocked to see ONLY oranges, bananas, and small loaves of bread.... No pizza, no bagels, no sugar food, no soda, no sweets. Only 3 items at the finish line - what's up with that? And then we were expected to PAY for coffee and bagels at the start line.... I've run Little Rock, and Memphis and I must say they were MUCH better organized at the finish line than Disney. | |

"Had A Goofy Time." (about: 2006)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my first Disney Marathon and I decided to go "Goofy." Did the half on Saturday and the full on Sunday. I trained in Atlanta and was used to running on hills and inclines, so running on a flat course was a bit different. Decided to just take it nice and easy, as I was running two races over the weekend. Water and PowerAde were plentiful, as were bananas and oranges. Plenty of spectators in the parks but sparse on the road between the parks (they did bus in support groups and bands for the route as well). Only delay was on Saturday in trading my orange Goofy wristband for the blue Goofy wristband. It was cold at the start on both days and on Saturday never seemed to warm up. By the end of the race on Sunday I was peeling off the layers. Overall I had a great time and recommend the races to first-timers. This was my 5th half marathon and my second full marathon. You will most definitely have a good time. Will be back next year for the marathon. (The Goofy was a one-time deal for me.) | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Doing the Goofy helped view the course. Seeing and getting pics with all the Disney characters was great. There's nothing to see along miles 16-22 until you get into MGM. The course is narrow during miles 25-26 - from after you leave MGM until the finish. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Overall, this race was excellent. The course was mostly flat, crowds were excellent, and running in Disney was just plain fun. My only complaint is that the 6 AM start required you to be on a bus by 4 AM at the latest, which equated to a 2:40 AM wake-up time for me to get breakfast, get ready, and get to the start. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This race is truly magical! Running in the Magic Kingdom with no crowds and the rides going, and with the music playing, was a surreal experience. The course is fast, and although it hasn't many hills, it is tough on your body due to a lot of cement running. The layout was good, and whenever there was a long stretch with nothing to see, it seems the organizers placed people or characters there to cheer you on. Crowds that lined the course were awesome along with the volunteers. The downsides to this race include having to leave your hotel no later than 4 AM; they have you out there freezing for 1-2 hours. I drove myself and pulled in at 5 AM and had no problems making it to the bag check and my corral. The cost of the race is too high - $90 this year, $100 for 2006 - and if you run the Goofy Challenge, you don't even get a discount! Paying $90 for a 1/2 marathon is absurd. Paying for massages is also wrong; the fee for the race should cover a massage, and we want and deserve one free of charge. This is a family destination race and the parks are not that crowded during this time. I will do this race again, however as a pace-team leader. Overall grade: A-. | |

"Completing the Goofy Challenge" (about: 2006)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I have just hobbled home having completed the inaugural Goofy Challenge - I ran the half on Saturday and the full on Sunday. The double whammy of two 6 AM starts (with organizers asking you to be at the start by 4 AM) in one weekend is a killer in itself, without the combined 39.3 miles!! The bling bling bling of 3 medals, though, is good enough compensation. Excellent organization, and a cold, cold start both days with the marathon heating up towards the end. Spectators were a bit sparse but there were plenty of water stops manned by friendly volunteers. All in all, a very enjoyable marathon. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is the fifth year in a row that I've run this race, and it gets better every year. Thanks to Disney for reading comments posted here, and improving the boring miles 13-18 with LOTS of distractions. The bands were wonderful and the volunteers were AWESOME! Even the spectators were given access to more portions of the course, creating even a better atmosphere. Great job Disney!!! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon and it was awesome!! Running through the parks was great, especially early in the morning when it was all lit up. Characters and spectators along the course really helped, and made for a less stressful race. I wanted to quit so many times I lost count, but the crowd, characters and volunteers kept me going. Miles 18-21 were long and kind of boring, and my friend had a hard time getting around the course to see me, but the chip tracker was great so my family could tell when I crossed the finish line. Volunteers and organization were great - lots of food, water/Powerade, medical tents and BioFreeze. Overall, a great first marathon experience. If you are a first-timer, I highly suggest this course! I also suggest running with a charity (I ran with Train to End Stroke); it makes all your hard work worth even more. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon and it was awesome. Everything was so well organized including Disney transportion to and from the race (which was one complaint that I read numerous times in prior comments). There was music and entertainment at every mile marker to break the boredom. There were ample water and PowerAde stops. Hershey kisses were given as candy near MGM. The best part was running through the parks from Epcot to Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom and finally MGM. Although we did not spend a lot of time in them, it really was magical. There were also lots of spectators, Disney characters, and bands along the course to keep you motivated. The course became a little narrow and congested at the beginning, especially when the red and blue courses combined at mile 3, but otherwise no complaints. Great job, Disney. I will definitely be back next year. | |

COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 If you like the big fanfare races - lots of runners, distractions, etc., then this is for you. Nice course through Disney - flat. Several pockets of enthusiastic fan support. I found the choice of music along the route to be a bit soft - "It's a small world" does not exactly get me through a tough spot.... Overall a nice race, but between the Disney scene and Orlando, it makes for a pretty distracting atmosphere. More of the fun for the whole family event than a running race. |
