6am start - and it's cold waiting for the fireworks and Mickey and Minnie's send-off. Nothing beats hitting Epcot and Magic Kingdom at or just after sunrise, and getting to see 'cast member' non-tourist areas. This one will likely be one i'll be doing every year...

In spite of extremely cold weather (34 degrees at start time), this was a great choice for a first marathon. The reace is well-organized, with plenty of aid stations and lots of amenities. I felt confident that if I experienced any problems finishing, that there would be help right away. I didn't, and finished in 4:47. The course is fun, running through the four theme parks. The only negative is a brutal stretch from about mile 17 to 22 which is just road from Animal Kingdom to Wide World of Sports, then on to MGM Studios - at that point in the race, I could have benefited from some scenery music, or spectator encouragement. I plan to be back again this year, and every year I am able. The Disney race organization is wonderful.

Everything was so well done. The best parts were the spectators and volunteers. Everywhere you turned, more people were cheering you on. Plenty of water stops, gels, etc. The course... what can be added? It is Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have read the many comments with interest. So as not to repeat, let me just say, this United Kingdom guy remembers running Disney in 1999. It was my 41st marathon, and it will be my 91st in 2005, and hey, OK it's not perfect, it's not great, but it's well worth doing (again). Trust me, as some one who has run ALL over the world, and in all seven continents. It is well up there on the list of good marathons (and I love that medal).

One thing I will add my voice to is for a bigger and better expo, with some great Disney Marathon gear that I can wear on my runs around the world (well at least till I get to the magic 100). I would be proud to wear some good quality Disney Marathon gear, and therefore let others know I think it's well worth doing (organizers of expo please note).

See you guys in 2005?

"Make a vacation out of it" (about: 2004)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Disney World Marathon

The two most notable things about this course are that it is very flat (okay, one or two small inclines) and has some very boring stretches. Very little of the course goes through the parks. The rest is on the open areas of the huge Disney property.

I like the early start since it can be warm for us northerners that time of year. Some improvements could be made at the water stops though. They were too narrow in places. If someone 'walked the water stops' they would almost get run over. The T-shirts could be better for the steep entry fee, although, the cool medal makes up for it.

Overall I did this once and this was not an especially noteworthy marathon that I would travel a large distance to run a second time, but the reason I'm signed up again is that it's a great excuse for a January vacation. I brought the kids down and there are almost no lines at the parks that time of year.

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This was my first marathon, so I have nothing to compare it to - with that in mind it was the best marathon I have ever run. The Disney 'magic' was in full view throughout the entire race. The start of the race was frigid, and I came from Denver - yet by the 1/2 mark I was hot. The gospel choir at mile 21 gave me the boost I needed to finish strong. I have already registered for '05. It was a wonderful experience.

Running through all the parks is really neat. Overall course is relatively flat. There is very little spectator support once you leave the Magic Kingdom especially on the main roads. Disney did a great job organizing and diverting traffic. Great part is my family and I made a vacation of it. I hope to run it again in 2006.

This was my 5th Disney, and it was great. I know the start may be a little early (6 a.m.), but so what? They treat you so good: there is plenty of food, water, Powerade, & porto=johns. The course is the best! Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, MGM & the Animal Kingdom. I just got fried in Boston (4/19), so I really missed this marathon. IF YOU LIKE DISNEY WORLD & LIKE TO RUN, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS MARATHON - IT IS WONDERFUL!

"Best running experience ever" (about: 2004)

It may be because I'm such a huge Disney buff, but this course was phenomenal! It was my very first marathon, and I couldn't believe all the support from spectators and volunteers. Every single mile was lined with both and they would encourage me every step of the way. There were tons and tons of beverages, foods and porta-johns. Also, they gave out energy gels at 16.

But most magicial about this race is running through all four theme parks. Running through Cinderella's Castle just sealed the deal for me. It is a bit hilly, for a flat-flat course, but I didn't even notice throughout the race b/c I was so mesmerized by the scenery. Characters are along all the rough, highway patches and in the parks as well. Expensive race, but worth every penny. My family came and watched me and we had a Walt Disney World vacation as a result - best vacation we've ever had. The four a.m. wake up call is a bit ridiculous considering I stood around for 2 hours doing nothing, but I will gladly do it again. Love this race and am running again this coming year. Love it.

Superb organization, great course. Plenty to take on the run. The crowd support was great but it was not as much as I expected.
