   Records set in Antarctic Ice Marathon (IAAF)
Miles Cudmore was joined by eighteen other runners from thirteen countries to run the Antarctic Ice Marathon. Despite bone chilling temperatures Cudmore over took the lead near the half marathon mark and went on to win with a record time of 4 hours and 36 minutes.

The Big Sur Marathon, which also includes a marathon relay, a 21 and 10.6 mile race, is on pace to sell out within one month. The April 26th marathon is approaching seventy percent full and there does not seem to be any slowing down in registration despite the economic downturn.

   Boston-bound runners train for marathon in winter weather (The Missoulian)
A small group of runners in Missoula, Montana, have started training three days a week for the Boston Marathon. The fourteen runners, organized by David Schmetterling of Missoula, are running in all sorts of winter weather, and will travel together to the Boston Marathon in April.

   Around the world in seven marathons (The Sacramento Bee)
Shalako Wengronowitz retired last month at age 56 due to osteoarthritis, after running since age 14. When he finished his last marathon, the Costa del Pacifico Marathon in Viña del Mar, Chile, he became only the 238th member of the Seven Continent Club, comprised of those runners who have completed a marathon on all seven continents.

The Dallas White Rock Marathon Corporation has launched a new half-marathon, to be run on March 15th. Registration will open next week, and will cost $55 until Feb. 15th.

   Peters, Benton make mark at Walt Disney World Marathon (St.Petersburg Times)
Melanie Peters of St.Petersburg attempted to defend her Walt Disney World title despite recovering from a serious car accident and running the half-marathon the day before. She still mustered a 2 hour and 53 minute marathon, which was good enough for second place.

   Bastos: A Walt Disney World Marathon Six-Peat (Tampa Tribune)
30-year-old Brazilian Adriano Santos won the Walt Disney World Marathon for the sixth time with a time of 2:20:38. Aaron Church took second place, nearly seven minutes behind Santos. 23-year-old Lisa Mizutani of Japan took first place in the women's race with a time of 2:46:27.
 
   Adriano Bastos captures 5th consecutive Disney Marathon (Orlando Sentinel)
Adriano Bastos of Sao Paulo, Brazil, won his fifth Walt Disney World Marathon in 2 hours 20 minutes and 28 seconds and he plans on winning five more. Aaron Church, who held onto Bastos until mile 14, would go on to finish second in 2 hours 27 minutes and 12 seconds.

   Delray runner celebrates 'Sweet 16' at Walt Disney World Marathon (South Florida Sun-Sentinel)
Delray Beach personal trainer Paul Marmaro ran the Walt Disney World Marathon for the 16th time, finishing first out of all the runners who had accomplished that feat, known as the "Sweet 16." His time of 3:03:33 placed him 92nd overall. His mother and father were unable to attend, due to his father's heart problems.

   Joyful finish familiar for Bastos in Walt Disney World Marathon (Palm Beach Post)
Adriano Bastos won the Walt Disney World Marathon for the fifth consecutive time, high-fiving fans as he ran the final quarter-mile of the race. Bastos wore a Goofy cap as he finished the race, and ran a three minute "victory lap" after crossing the finish line.

For the past fourteen years the Grandma's Marathon has filled to capacity. This year the online only registration will be capped at ninety-five hundred runners. The race was just over half full within twenty-four hours last year.

Travis Dodson, a 23-year-old Marine who lost both legs to a grenade in Iraq, will compete in the Chevron Houston Wheelchair Half Marathon on Sunday. This will only be Dodson's second race, but he is being coached by Wendy Gumbert-Mendoza, the U.S. national paralympics track coach, who says that Dodson may be capable of qualifying for the 2012 Paralympics and contending for a medal in 2016.

   Racing to lose, in the Houston Marathon (Houston Chronicle)
Two Houstonians, Norman Langwell of Huntsville and Marilyn Cook of Tomball, decided separately to begin running to lose weight, and between them have now lost over 300 pounds. For Langwell, the Houston Marathon will be his eighth full marathon, and Cook, running in the Aramco Services Company Half-Marathon, will be running her third half-marathon.
 
   Houston Marathon tip: Give your feet some wiggle room (Houston Chronicle)
The Houston Marathon takes place this coming Sunday and one of the tips offered for a better race is to leave shoe laces a little loose. Feet tend to swell up to 10% during the race which could curtail your race plans.
