   First-Timers End Up in First Place at Akron Marathon (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
Richard Chelimo won the Akron Marathon with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 21 seconds on a rain soaked course. Hirut Mandefro, Ethiopia, won the women's marathon with a time of 2 hours 51 minutes and 59 seconds.

Sharon Taengwa won the Cape Town Marathon with a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 8 seconds. George Mafokeng of South Africa made a comeback to win the Nedbank Cape Town City Marathon in 2 hours 14 minutes and 20 seconds.

   Rain Cannot Slow Down the 32nd Running of the Clarence Demar Marathon (The Keene Sentinel)
Justin Fyffe won his second straight Clarence Demar Marathon in dark and dreary condition with a time of 2 hours 34 minutes and 47 seconds. Holly Parker took home the women's title with a time of 3 hours 7 minutes and 22 seconds.

Claire Forbes broke the magical three hour barrier for her first marathon at the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon with a chip time of 2 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds. Joseph Kibunja won the men's marathon with a time of 2 hours 33 minutes and 27 seconds.

   Man Completes Loop of Tahoe Rim Trail in Record 38 1/2 Hours (Tahoe Daily Tribune)
Kilian Jornet of Spain smashed the Lake Tahoe Rim Run Trail record by running the 165 mile trail in 38 hours and 32 minutes. The previous record established in 1995 was 45 hours and 58 minutes.

Sean Meissner won one of the warmest Lake Tahoe Marathons in the event history with a time of 2 hours 58 minutes easily outdistancing other marathon runners. Gretchen Brugman won the women's title.

Ray Scharenbrock and Henry Reuden have both run more than six-hundred races of marathon distance or longer. Each has run in the fifty states more than once. For both, they started running because someone said they couldn't run one marathon.
