		Death of Olympic Trials Marathoner Shay Prompts Search For Answers (USA Today) Medical researches are looking for answers in the death of Ryan Shay. Ryan's father, Joe Shay, stated that Ryan was diagnosed with and enlarged heart at 14 and repeatedly cleared by medical doctors to run and compete. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the scientific term for an enlarged hearts is often indiscernible in elite endurance athletes.

		Action Starts Early at U.S. Marathon Trials (Detroit Free Press) I came across the group at 6 a.m., in the predawn darkness of Saturday's U.S. Olympic men's marathon trials. I remember the time because I wrote it in my notebook under the glare of headlights on Central Park West in New York City. It was 1 1/2 hours before the race, but Eileen O'Dowd was already busy at work. She was near a folding table distributing T-shirts promoting the 13 Olympic trials qualifiers from the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in Rochester Hills.

		Autopsy Inconclusive On Olympic Trials Runner (kdka.com) An autopsy of elite runner Ryan Shay was inconclusive Sunday after the 28-year-old collapsed and died in Central Park at the U.S. men's marathon Olympic trials a day earlier. Diagnosed with an enlarged heart at fourteen, Shay was cleared to compete as an elite athlete because having a larger than normal heart is not unusual among elite athletes. Shay and other top athletes underwent medical testing in Flagstaff, Ariz., where he trained and he was cleared for running.

Yuot fled his country during the civil war in Sudan. As a refugee in a camp with 80,000 others, Yuot was sent to Pennsylvania where his running career began in high school.

		Large Turnout At Chickamauga Battlefield Races (Chattanoogan) The Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon, 10 Mile Race and Junior Marathon included the largest turn out in recent memory, with 482 runners participating in the marathon, 411 participating in the 10 mile race, and 136 children taking part in Junior Marathon.

		'Marathon Junkie' sets record time in Marshall Marathon (The Hearald Dispatch) Chuck Engle took the early lead and went on to smash the Marshall University course record by over 10 minutes to win the marathon in 2 hours 34 minutes
		Marshall Marathon Record Participation (WSAZ News) The race may have been overshadowed nationally by the New York City Marathon, but the Marshall Marathon in Huntington is getting its legs. The race field increased by 40 percent to more than 850 runners and it's only in its fourth year. There was record participation Sunday and also record times set in both the half and full marathon.

		'Glitch' Causes Some Incorrect Finishing Times at NYC Marathon (Bloomberg) Richard Finn is expected to release a statement regarding finishing times of a few of the 39,000 runners in Sundays NYC Marathon. A glitch in the timing pad used to time the runners by electronic chip affected some of their overall finish times. It is not known yet exactly which runners were affected or how many. Elite athletes have a separate start line where times were not affected.

		Thousands turn out for New York City Marathon (Lower Hudson) 38,000 runners embrace the beautiful fall backdrop as Lel and Radcliffe win the men's and women's New York City Marathon respectively.
		Ramaala third in NYC Marathon (South Africa International) Ramaala led the field through the 10K mark of the New York City Marathon and would go on to finish third which completed his trifecta of medals from New York as Lel and Gourmri finish 1st and 2nd in a very close finish.
