   Kenyan Wins California International Marathon (KCRA.com)
Laban Moiban of Kenya who was an early leader at the twenty-fifth anniversary of the California International Marathon won in 2:14:44. Richard Kimeli placed second and John Gathoga took third. place. Wioletta Kryza took first place in the women's race.

   Olympic hopes ride on California International Marathon performances (Sacramento Bee)
Kirsten Schneider, a local runner in the CIM, and Marie Sample both hope to run faster than 2 hours 47 minutes this Sunday in the California International Marathon. With this time the will achieve the B standard for the 2008 Women's Olympic Marathon Trials

   Army reservist and runner stages 'shadow' race so he won't miss Sunday's California International Marathon. (Sacramento Bee)
Anthony Mike from Elk Grove, California will run the California Internation Marathon in Baghdad. While the CIM will boast 18 aide stations, Mike will have to use the water provided on his escort truck as he circles a 6.5 mile loop inside a U.S. Green Zone in Baghdad. Mike will also be competing against 3 or 4 other runners in Baghdad. A far cry from the nearly 6,000 expected at the starting line of the CIM.

   Brittain hopes to smash Caymman marathon record! (Cay Compass)
Scott Brittain, who ran 2:31 at the Gold Coast Marathon earlier this year, plans on smashing the course record at the Cayman Island Marathon. Brittain is regarded as a casual runner and hopes to eclipse the 2:53 record despite the expected heat.

   Cayman Marathon going green this Sunday (Caymanian Compass)
Chris Weaver of Island Supply said his company is proud to provide eco-friendly Greenware cups to the participants of the Cayman Island Marathon. More than 16,000 cups made of the bio-degradable Nebraska corn based cups will be placed along the course for runners and walkers. While race officials brag about the wonderful volunteers who do an excellent job of picking up...it is still nice to know that these Greenware cups will not be an eyesore.

   The best hour for the Costa Rica International Marathon at 6am (Nacion)
Humidity and the temperature at the normal 12 noon start has weighed heavily on the Guillermo Sáenz, race director. Exercise Physiolgists and other health officials have expressed concerns about the runners well being. The race has been reset to 7 am for what hopefully will be cooler temperatures.

   2007 Wellstone’s Dallas White Rock Marathon Reaches Capacity, Closes Registration (Press International)
The Dallas White Rock Marathon has reached it's 15,000 runner capacity and has officially closed registration. The December 9th, 8 am start for the marathon will be mark an increase by nearly 3,500 runners from just one year ago.

   Runners gear up for Walt Disney World Marathon (Travel News - Orlando Sanford)
On Sunday January 13, 2008 thousands of runners will set off from the Epcot center of famed Walt Disney World in an attempt to complete the 26.2 mile marathon distance. This year marks the 15th year of the race and special park passes to Pleasure Island will be passed out to all competitors completing the 1/2 or full marathon.

   Second year of Dubai marathon support for sports giant PUMA (AME Info)
Puma will lead the way for the second year in a row of the Dubai Marathon. In addition to showcasing their newest product innovations the Dubai Marathon will have the famous Puma Turn at mile 13 and multiple Puma booths at the start and finish. European record holder Benoit Zwierchwiewski will be on hand to attempt a new European marathon record. His best, and the current record, stands at 2:06:36. Benoit Z as he is known stated that the course is flat, fast and very conducive to a new record.

   2:06:39 debut victory for Wanjiru in Fukuoka (IAAF Athletics)
At a press conference prior to the Fukuoka International Marathon, Kenyan Half Marathon World Record Holder Sammy Wanjiru made two promises - to win his debut marathon and to finish in a 2:06. Keeping close to Wanjiru through most of the race was Deriba Merga of Ethiopia who finished second in 2:06:50. Atsushi Sato, Japan's Half Marathon record holder, placed third in 2:07:13, a personal best by one minute twenty-three seconds.
 
   Wanjiru edges Merga to win Fukuoka Marathon (International Herald Tribune)
Best known for having the fastest half marathon finishes in the world, Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru won the Fukuoka International Marathon in his marathon debut with a time of 2:06:39 on Sunday, December 2, 2007. Ethiopia's Deriba Merga came in a close second in a 2:06:50. Atsushi Sato took third place in a time of 2:07:13.

Initially set to square off against fellow Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru, former world record holder Paul Tergat has pulled out of the Fukuoka International Marathon.

The 1000 volunteers for the Dec 9 marathon will consist of six medical doctors, seven physiotherapists, 10 clinical officers, 20 nurses and 207 first aides. Each will placed on the course at several stations to carry out their respective duties. Many volunteers will be asked to help with marshaling runners along the route and aide stations.

   More than a mere marathon the Las Vegas marathon included Elvises, newlyweds and of course runners. (Las Vegas SUN)
Rather than sit in a designated post for photographers, Tiffany Brown of the Las Vegas Sun, dawned her running shoes and explored the marathon from the inside. While photographs of more than 200 running "Elvi" and 56 marrying couple were unique to Vegas, stories of personal triumph were just as prevalent.

   Skvortsova, Cheboibich win Las Vegas Marathon (International Herald Times)
Silviya Skvortsova of Russia finished the Las Vegas Marathon ahead of her male counter part, Christopher Cheboibich of Kenya, to win the inter gender competition and pick up a bonus of $25,000 on top of her $20,000 for winning the women's race. Skvortsova ran 2:29 to Cheboibich's 2:16. The Russian's 18 minute head start would prove to much for the Kenyan to overcome.

The winners of the St. Jude Memphis marathon will be even more happy knowing that more than 1 million dollars will go to help children. All of the proceeds from the race go to benefit the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis which will not turn down a child in need of treatment.
