   10th Antarctica Marathon on tap (Universal Sports)
Despite sub freezing temperatures and a cost of nearly two-hundred dollars per mile, the tenth Antarctica Marathon has been sold out for years. There are only 200 spots available for the twenty-six point two mile race and the 2010 and 2011 events are already sold out with the 2012 even filling quickly.

   19 year old wins 41st Birch Bay Marathon (Bellingham Herald)
The forty-first annual Birch Bay Marathon was held on Sunday and a 19-year-old University of Washington student, Patrick Wauters, won the men's marathon race with a time of 2 hours, 55 minutes, 30 seconds. Winning the race for the women was Jenny Hortsmann who ran the 26.2 mile race in 3 hours, 20 minutes and 52 seconds

The Boston Marathon has announced its elite field for the 2009 race. In addition to the previously announced Ryan Hall, Kara Goucher, Evans Cheruiyot and Dire Tune, the race will feature Deribe Merga, Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot, Stephen Kiogora, Brian Sell, Lidia Grigoryeva and Galina Bogomolova, among others.

   450 kids complete marathon at Five Points of Life Kids Marathon (The Gainseville Sun)
Saturday marked the final steps for over four hundred and fifty children completed the twenty six point two mile distance of a marathon. Race director Brite Whitaker stated that the running "teaches kids not only healthy lifestyles and sets them on the course for future exercise".

Matt Loiselle of Toronto Canada won the Fourth Annual Five Points of Life Marathon in Gainesville Florida. His time of two hours, 26 minutes and 50 seconds was just missed the course record of 2 hours 25 minutes and 29 seconds. Ideal conditions greeted the runners with temps in the low 40's and barely a trace of wind

   Pompano Beach's Baxter is top woman at AIA Marathon (Miami Herald)
Mari-Lee Baxter of Pompano Beach took the woman's marathon title in Sundays A1A Mrathon in Fort Lauderdale with a time of 3 hours and 24 minutes and 10 seconds. Portugal's Antonio Sousa, vacationing in Florida, was first overall in the male category with course record time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 22 seconds.
 
   A1A Marathon winner too fast even for race escorts (Sun-Sentinel)
The men's winner of the A1A Marathon, Antonio Sousa of Lisbon, Portugal, waited over 30 minutes after breaking the course record to have his moment of glory. Sousa was alone from mile 9 and paced ahead of the motorcycle escorts to cross the line before officials recognized he was finished

The Bjorklund Half Marathon, held in conjunction with Grandma's Marathon, will open registration at 12:01 AM. Wednesday and continues through 8 AM. on March 2. The lottery system will select 4500 participants for the 13.1 mile road race.

David Barnes of Dalroy Close, South Ockendon, will run the London Marathon dressed as Buzz Lightyear, in order to raise money for the Macmillan Nurses. Barnes lost his father to cancer in September, and says that the Nurses were a "great support" in his father's final weeks.

The Miami Marathon has released the design for the 2009 Marathon Poster. Savannah College of Art and Design student, Michael Albuquerque, 27, from Recife, Brazil won the contest this year and is a repeat winner as his design was selected for the 2008 design.

Event director, John Addison, has revised the Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon route to include the Moshi-Arusha highway and exclude the Moshi-Dar es Salaam highway. This will allow for a much better view of the mountain along the route and for a more spectator friendly race.
