   Morocco’s Annani wins Beppu Oita marathon (Daily Times)
Adil Annani, the 28 year old Moroccan, won the Beppu Oita, with a new personal best time of 2 hours 10 minutes and 38 seconds despite windy conditions. Kenyans Chelimo and Mbote led Annani through the half-way point before resigning his pacer duties

   Morocco's Adil Annani wins Beppu-Oita Marathon (IAAF)
Adil Annani of Morocco won Sunday's Beppu-Oita Marathon with a time of 2:10:15. Two Japanese runners took a close second and third, Seiji Kobayashi finishing in 2:10:38 and Keita Akiba, running his first marathon, in 2:10:53. Akiba's marathon debut was faster than that of Hiromi Taniguchi, who went on to with the Olympic gold medal after running a 2:13:16 in his first marathon at Beppu Oita.

The Beppu-Oita Mainichi Maratho, an IAAF Silver Label Road Race, will be held this Sunday. Peter Kiprotich and John Kemboi of Kenya will be challenged by one of the best domestic fields assembled for the 58th annual marathon.

Kara Goucher says that her main goal for 2009 is to win the Boston Marathon, and she's already preparing. This will be just her second marathon, and if she won in Boston, she'd be the first American woman to do so since 1985.

Catherine Ndereba has not yet decided on her marathon plans this year. She may return to the World Championships, where she has won twice, in Berlin; she's also thinking about returning the Boston Marathon -- which has not set its lineups yet -- where she has won four times.

The 2009 edition of the Chicago Marathon opened registration for the 32 annual 26.2 mile race. The $125 entry fee has not stopped the race from filling to capacity earlier every year.

   With New Date and Ownership, LA Marathon Unveils Prize Money Purse (Race Results Weekly)
Under new owenership, the L.A. Marathon is offering a guaranteed $200,000 prize money purse, attempting to draw elite runners back to the race. The previous ownership had some financial difficulties, and struggled to paying vendors and athletes on time. The dates, start time, and course are also undergoing changes.
 
   LA Marathon to Feature an Old Course, New Starting Time (Los Angeles Times)
This year's LA Marathon will be held on Memorial Day, rather than in March, and will start earlier than in previous years; it will also return to its course of a few years ago, starting and ending in downtown Los Angeles.

Mark Knutson stated that he and his wife declined and offer for the Fargo Marathon. The not for profit race could be in jeopardy based on some impending personal issues with the CasMar Events company which manages the Fargo Marathon.

   Mumbai holds marathon for cancer awareness (Asian News International)
This Sunday's Mumbai Marathon was sponsored by the Terry Fox Foundation, which is attempting to raise funds for cancer research. The race, attended by hundreds of students and Bollywood actors, was also raising money for the cancer ward at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.

Meyer Friedman won the New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon for the third consecutive year with a new personal best marathon time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 34 seconds in near perfect conditions. Autumn Ray successfully defended her title with a time of 2 hours 58 minutes and 23 seconds.

Norma Bastidas of Calgary just completed the coldest part of her quest to run ultramarathons on all 7 continents: a 100-kilometer race. Perhaps even more impressive, she did it in shoes that didn't fit, because she had lost a toenail in her last race, a 217-kilometer ultramarathon.

Brian Stark seems to have been running ever since age 7, when he tried to catch his parents as their car pulled away from a rest stop without him. He ran cross country in high school and college, walked 2000 miles of the Appalachian Trail after graduation, and then, 4 years later, ran 4800 miles from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.

   Wanjiru takes overwhelming Half Marathon win; Domínguez PB in Granollers (IAAF)
Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya, reigning Olympic marathon champion, took a dominating win at the 24th Mitja Marató de Granollers half-marathon, crossing with a time of 61:13, 1:04 ahead of his closes competitor. In the women's half-marathon, Marta Dominguez of Spain won with a time of 70:54, which was also her own personal record.

   Gebrselassie Predicts 1:58.00 Marathon (Daily Nation)
Haile Gebreselassie, at a Nairobi dinner where he was honored alongside longtime rival and friend Paul Tergat, predicts that in a few decades, someone will break the two-hour barrier and run a marathon in 1:58:00. He and Tergat also discussed some of their memorable past races.

   Gomeda, Mutane clinch Nagpur International Marathon titles (Press Trust of India)
Adugnga Tola Gomeda, Ethiopia, won the Nagpur International Marathon with a time of 2 hours 18 minutes and 29 seconds. Countrymen Wellay Amare was the runner-up with a time of 2 hours 18 minutes and 30 seconds. Desdary Lucian Hombo of Kenya finished in third just 9 seconds behind Amare.
