		Weather Channel signs on as Atlanta Marathon sponsor (Atlanta Journal Constitution) The Atlanta Marathon will take place on November 27th. Thanksgiving day marks the 47th year for the race and this years sponsor will be locally based The Weather Channel. The marathon and half marathon had over 8,000 runners last year and only cost 50 dollars for the full marathon before September 1st with a 35 dollar half marathon entry fee.

		IDF delegation to Berlin Marathon runs into funding obstacle (The Jerusalem Post) The 35th Berlin Marathon will take place on September 28. It is expected to draw 40,000 athletes and more than a million spectators. The IDF wanted to send a command of 60 officers to run the Berlin Marathon but due to over booked facilities on the German military post the IDF will have to pay for the housing of its 60 officers and is unable to find the funding.

		Eighth-grader runs marathon, sets sights on Boston (Onalaska Life) Allison Jensen has set her sights on the Boston Marathon when she is 18. At the age of 14 she finished the Green Bay Marathon in 4 hours and 18 minutes to take top honors in her age group. The race had its consequences as any athletic event will. Jensen was in bed for 3 days after the race due to being sore.

		Sandy runner keeps pace with Armstrong at Boston. (Salt Lake Tribune) Craig Green set his sights high for the Boston MArathon. His goal was to run the 26.2 mile race under 2 hours and 50 minutes. The plan was to simply stay with Lance Armstrong who had the same goal time. Green's nerves would play a factor but running with the crowds and the encouragement made it the race of his life.

		Onders, Thelen defend Casper Marathon titles (Jackson Hole Star Tribune) Bob Onders, who was attending a wedding the night before the race, achieved a three-peat winning the Casper Marathon in a 2:44:07. Joe Wilson was second in 2:49:39. Defending Champion Tracy Thelen won the women's division placing third overall at 3:07:26.

		Troubled L.A. Marathon is up for sale (LA Times) In a continued struggle with its finances, Devine Racing LLC, the race event management company behind such races as the Los Angeles Marathon and Las Vegas Marathon, has announced publicly for the first time that the Los Angeles Marathon is for sale. Potential interest has stemmed from Falconhead Capital the owners of Elite Racing, Dallas-based U.S. Road Sports and Entertainment Group which recently purchased the ING Miami Marathon and Los Angeles media executives Russ Pillar and David Kingsdale. Devine Racing's debt includes what it owes its creditors - vendors, elite athlete/champions and the Nevada Highway Patrol in conjunction with the 2007 Las Vegas Marathon.

		No helping hand in 2008 Comrades Marathon (SABCnews) The Comrades Marathon Association's has taken a decision to disqualify runners who assist those that cannot continue on their own. While this ruling has been in place for many years. This decision comes after two runners passed away after being assisted across the finish line in 2007 edition of the annual event.

		Comeback kid goes for gold at Comrades (IOL.CO.nz) Lucas Nonyana has come a long way with the Comrades Marathon from having been stopped at a cut-off point at the race five years ago to winning silver the following year. Although Nonyana placed ninth in 2007 he is touted as the main challenger in the 2008 edition.

		8,000 compete in second Cork marathon (Irish Times) East Cork's Roy Fahy won the second Cork City marathon in a time of two hours 33 minutes 55 seconds after finish third in the first annual event. He was two minutes ahead of second place finisher Eoin O'Connell whose time was 2 hours 35 minutes and 57 seconds. St Finbarr's Cathal O'Connell finished third in 2 hours 36 minutes and 17 seconds. The women's marathon was won by Sligo Athletic Club's Lucy Brennan with a time of 2 hours 54 minutes.

		Mickelson Trail Marathon draws praise from runners (Rapid City Journal) James McGown won the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon in a time of 2:33:52. Top female finisher, Emily Brzozowski felt the uphill course gave her an advantage finishing in a 2:59:06. The marathon featured runners from all over the world.
		The Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon has a new course record. (KMEG) James McGowan smashed the Deadwood-Mickelson Marathon course record running the 26.2 mile course is 2 hours 33 minutes and 52 seconds. That eclipsed the old course record by nearly 7 minutes. Emily Brzowski, of Colorado Springs, Colorado took first place for the women with a time of 2 hours, 59 minutes and 6 seconds for the Black Hills course that draws nearly 1,500 runners annually.

		Records Fall During Edge To Edge (Westcoaster.ca) Chris Barth took first place at the Edge to Edge Marathon in a time of 2:44:02 on his 38th birthday. Colleen Buchwitztook first place in the womens marathon, one week after turning 40. The race saw a record number with over seven hundred runners registered for all three events, up from about 50 last year.

		Williamson gears up for annual H-M Reunion (Medical Leader News) June 13 thru the 15th marks the annual Hatfield-McCoy Reunion Festival. Food, festivities and a marathon will mark the celebration. The marathon starts at 7 am on June 14th and finishes in the downtown area of Williamson, West Virginia. The race has been featured in Running Times Magazine.

		A new course for the Eurasia Istanbul Marathon (Today's Zaman) The first major course change in 11 years for the Istanbul Eurasia Marathon will increase the historical and scenic value of the marathon. With over 700 marathon runners and in its 30th year, the race committee hopes that it will draw 1000 runners this year.

		Lakefront Marathon reaches entry limit; closes registration (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) The Lakefront Marathon reached it's expanded capacity of 2,750 and closed registration 10 days earlier than the 2007 edition of the race. Race Director Hinrichs states that people come to the race for its smaller crowds and scenic course. The increase of 250 entrants alloted for this years race seems to be an annual adjustment for the race. Hinrichs stated that the course will not generally allow for huge increases in numbers without some adjustments.

		First Maine marathon celebration returns to Rockland Aug. 14 (Knox County News Times) Exactly 100 years since Maine hosted its first 26 mile 385 yard race, Rockland, Maine will hold a commemorative marathon on August 14th. The free fun run will provide no course markings or awards, but will be a fun run to commemorate the history of the Maine Marathon.

		Podruchny running in his 100th marathon in Manitoba (Winnipeg Free Press) This Fathers Day Tom Podruchny will run his 100th marathon at the age of 71. He ran his first marathon in 1971 in Manitoba and will be the first Manitoban to reach the century mark in the marathon. When he did his first marathon, most of his relatives did not think he would live through it.

		Runner raises enough to participate in Anchorage marathon (The Smithville Herald) Tiffany Cameron has raised $5,200 to earn a trip to Anchorage to run the Mayor's Land of the Midnight Sun Marathon. She raised the money for the Team in Training which allows runners to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Anchorage race marks Camerons 34th marathon.

		Female Olympic Discovery Marathon title up for grabs (Peninsula Daily News) Female runners in this weekend's full marathon can breathe a sigh of relief as the women's title will be up for grabs with three-time winner Lori Buratto out of the race due to injury aggravated at the 2008 Boston Marathon. To top it off, the two best female runners from the 2007 Olympic Discovery Marathon have not registered for the 2008 race. In the men's race, 2006 champion and course record holder Preston Brashers returns.

		Seeking Marathon Edge, Can Rice Lead to Gold? (International Herald Tribune) No one will forget when Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya a favorite in Beijing - slipped as he crossed the finish line in Chicago suffering a concussion. But master craftsmen Hitoshi Mimura, working for Asics, has developed a new sole for marathon shoes made from corn husks that will provide 10% better traction that could easily prevent such slippage on a wet Beijing course at the 2008 Olympic Marathon race.

		Marathon man Bandara bags another title at National Sports Festival Marathon (Daily Mirror) National marathon champion runner Ajith Bandara won the marathon for men at the 34th National Sports Festival held on Sunday in Anuradhapura. The North Western Provincial man ran the course 2 hours 28 minutes and 36 seconds to out pace the second place finisher by 2 minutes. The womens marathon was won by M.A. Chandrawathi of North Central Province in a time of three hours, four minutes and 17 seconds.

		Texan runs Himalayan marathon four times (My West Texas News) Pat Johns who started running thirty-three years ago to lose weight will become the first person to run the 100-mile Himalayan Marathon four times. Johns is a clydesdale runner who has completed sixty marathons and ultramarathons including Pike's Peak.
		NY Governor training for Boilermaker (UticaOD.com) Governor David Paterson, New York States first legally blind governor, plans to run the Boilermaker 15K Road Race. Paterson, recently had surgery on his left eye in May to relieve pain from acute glaucoma. Paterson also is a member of the Achilles Track Club, a worldwide organization created to encourage people with disabilities to participate in long-distance running with the general public.

		Culpepper Wins Rocky Mountain Half Marathon (CBS4Denver) Olympian Alan Culpepper, who is in training for the Olympic 10,000 meter qualifying trials, crossed the finish line of Sunday's Rocky Mountain Half Marathon with a time of 1:07:57. Culpepper was followed by Jason Parks in second with a 1:14:00 and John Nichols of Denver in third with a 1:15:19. Nicole Chyr of Englewood was the first woman across with a time of 1:28:38.
