   Cox Gets Olympic Trials Qualifying Time in Solo Run (Race Results Weekly)
Cox, 32, clocked a course record 2:19:29 to finish more than 11 minutes ahead of runner-up, Chuck Engle. His performance was well under the "A" qualifying standard of 2:20:00 which will guarantee him an expenses-paid trip to the Trials in New York City on Nov. 3, just 49 days away.

Lee Bong-ju originally planned to participate in the New York Marathon in November, but after researching the Beijing Olympics marathon course last month, he changed his plan and decided to run the Chicago Marathon, which has a flat course similar to that of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games course.

Gitahi, from Kenya, who has represented a Japanese club since the age of 15, went ahead at 35 kilometers (22 miles) and finished in two hours 17 minutes 26 seconds. Local favorite Yuri Kano won her first title in the women's race.
 
   Gitahi and Kano Win in the heat at the Hokkaido Marathon (IAAF)
Gitahi, a marathon debutante, won in 2:17:26, while Kano, who was running her second marathon of her running career, won in 2:30:43.
