   New record set in 2007 Cayman Marathon (Cayman Net News)
New Cayman resident Scott Brittain broke the course record at the Cayman Islands Marathon in 2:45:23. The previous record of 2:53:42 that was set by former resident Tony Keely back in 2003. In the women's race Andrea Kovach of Naperville, Illinois was the first woman to complete the marathon and finished in a time of 3:37:02

   Registration For 2008 Chicago Marathon Delayed (CBS online)
Race organizers for the Oct 12th, 2008 Chicago Marathon have pushed registration back until February 1st. Spokeswoman Marianne Caponi stated that this will allow organizers extra time to discuss water stations and security to improve over last years Oct 7th fiasco in which the race was shut down 3.5 hours after the start in 88 degree heat.

   Arizona Runners, get set for big start in 2008 (The Arizona Repulic)
The dozen or so running events in Arizona in January and February is usually marked by P.F. Chang's Rock n Roll Marathon on January 13th. However, this year the LOST DUTCHMAN Marathon has been selected by the National Black Marathoners Association as this year pick. Labeled as one of the "Best Little Marathon's in the Country" the Lost Dutchman Marathon will host the N.B.M.A. annual gathering.

   Marathon Man: Physical therapist, others ready to put best foot forward at Mississippi Blues Marathon (Clarion Ledger)
Wayne Jimenez, a physical therapist in Ridgeland, MS will participate in the inaugural Mississippi Blues Marathon on January 5th. While many others spend their lunch time eating and dining, Jimenez has continued a tradition of running during that hour. It will pay off with another marathon race. This time in his hometown of Jackson.

   Coach trains youths for the marathon of life (Orange County Register)
Tom Erikson was inspired to run his first marathon by Robert, a 17-year-old Mexican boy sentenced for assault at the Youth Center at which he worked. Robert expressed interest in running the Los Angeles Marathon and Erikson agreed if three conditions were met. Robert complied and the two ran the Los Angelese Marathon together. Erickson has instituted physical fitness and running programs for youngsters at the Orange County Probation Department's Youth Guidance Center in Santa Ana.

2004 Athens Olympics marathon gold medalist, Stefano Baldini from Italy is looking forward to the difficult running conditions for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Baldini is aware of the smog levels in Beijing, but is confident that he has the ability to adapt well to those type of conditions.

   Kipkoech Cheruiyot, Timbilil beat the heat in São Paulo (IAAF)
Kenyan athletes Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Alice Timbilil dominated the São Silvestre 15k road race in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Cheruiyot crossed the line more than a minute ahead of Patrick Ivuti. Thirs place finisher was Brazilian Anoé Dias. In the women's race Alice Timbilil dominated most of race, but Marizete Rezende closed the gap to finish in second.

   Timbilili from Kenya Wins Women's Sao Silvestre Marathon (China View)
In the women's race Kenyan Alice Timbilili won the Sao Silvester Marathon in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Runner-up was Marizete Rezende and third place finisher was Maria Zeferina Baldaia, winner of the race in 2001.

   Tokyo 2016 Promotes Bid With Frigid Olympic Swim (Olympic Bid News)
Tokyo’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games began its first promotional event of the year by sponsoring an Olympic swim in the freezing waters of Tokyo Bay. The media event rallied over forty athletes from Japan’s national wrestling team to promote the bid.

   Lel & Wami Ranked No. 1 in Marathon in 2007 (Race Results Weekly)
Race Results Weekly, the wire service of distance running, has awarded the honors ot top ranked marathon runners in 2007 to Ethiopian Gete Wami and Kenyan Martin Lel. Lel won both esteemed London and New York City Marathons in the same year. Wami ran three marathons in the World Marathon Majors series this year, winning at Berlin, and finishing second at both London and New York.

   Kenyans dominate St. Silvester road race in Sao Paulo (Internatinal Herald Tribune)
Kenyans Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Alice Timbilili won the traditional 15-kilometer race in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Cheruiyot won in 45:57. Runner-up was Patrick Ivuti (46:53) and third place finisher was Brazil's Anoe dos Santos Dias (47:06). In the women's race Alice Timbilili won in 53:07.

Tabitha Tsatsa's victory at the 2007 ING Taipei International Marathon in a 2:33:07 has earned her a spot on the Zimbabwe Olympic Team. Top Kenyans Anne Chelagat (2:38:19) and Merima Benboba (2:49:14) placed second and third respectively. Mike Fokorani, who will carry the country's flag in the men's marathon.

Eun-jeong has started her low pressure low oxygen training in an attempt to prepare for her Gold Medal Quest. Eun-jeong has stated that her training will allow her to break the long standing Korean Marathon record of 2:26 and will set her up to take gold in Beiging.

   Pensacola marathon will have special guest (Pensacola News Journal)
Gulf coast children from kindergarten through 6th grade will have the opportunity to meet Subway legend Jared Fogle on January 5th to help kick off the Pensacola Kids Marathon. The children will complete 25 miles over the next 41 days and finish their marathon with adult competitors by running the last 1.2 miles on February 17th.

   Laskey Captures Roxbury Marathon (Voices the Newspaper)
Joe Laskey won the fourth annual Roxbury Marathon in 3:32:35. Carrie Lombardo was the first female finisher and placed sixth overall in 4:08.36. The marathon had twenty-one finishers in the marathon.

   Good Samaritan Run for the Ranch Marathon draws record numbers (News-Leader)
Chad Conner, traveling across the country with his fiance' from Bend Oregon to Ann Arbor Michigan, stopped in for the annual Good Samaritan Marathon and defeated defending champion Chuck Engle by nearly 4 minutes. Connor's time of 2:39 out paced Engle's time of 2:43.

   Kenya's Mucheru to race Tiberias Marathon in Israel again, says manager (All Africa)
Mucheru who changed his name to Mushir Salem Jawher and declared allegiance to Bahrain has been reinstated as a Kenyan after being stateless and falling out of favor by winning the Tiberias marathon in January of 2007. With his nationality restored he will be permitted to run and defend his title.

   Sun Yingjie set to return from doping ban (China Daily)
Sun Yingjie, Chinese long distance runner who won bronze in the 10,000 meters at the 2003 Paris World Championships before failing a urine test for androsterone at the Chinese National Games in 2005 is returning to the racing scene following her two year ban. Sun has registered for the Xiamen International Marathon.
