Josh Cox smashed the American 50K record, which had stood for nearly seven years, by almost four and a half minutes. His last five miles were completed on a track after he finished the Rock N Roll Arizona Marathon. He completed the 31 mile race in 2 hours 47 minutes and 17 seconds.

   British tourist Hennessy runs away with China Coast marathon trophy (South China Morning Post)
Andrew Hennessy was off the course record set in 1981 by nearly eleven minutes. But his time of 2 hours and 45 minutes was enough to win by almost ten minutes. Hennessy also won the Jersey Shore Marathon in 2007 and 2008.

   Ethiopia's Less Known Runners Rake-In Millions (Addis Fortune)
Bezunesh Bekele finished fourth at the 2007 IAAF World Championship Half Marathon. She was able to win the Dubai Marathon this year in 2 hours 24 minutes and 1 second. She collected 250 thousand dollars for her victory which was almost one minutes slower than her second place finish last year.

   Winners Thrilled By Progess (Houston Chronicle)
Meb Keflezighi, the silver medalist at the Athens Olympics in 2004, struggled with injuries much of last year -- but he won the Half Marathon Race in Houston on Sunday with a personal record time of 1:01:25. Magdalena Boulet, the women's winner, is also recovering from injuries.

Deriba Merga sailed alone for the last nine miles to capture the men's marathon title at the Houston Marathon with a time of 2 hours 7 minutes and 52 seconds despite swirling winds. His time smashed the twenty year old course record by over two minutes.

Deriba Merga of Ethiopia won the Houston Marathon on Sunday by a wide margin, clock and final time of 2:07:52. The second-place runner, Benson Cheruiyot of Kenya, was nearly four minutes behind him. Despite the blistering pace, however, Merga was still dissatisfied: before the race he had been aiming for a time of 2:05, which would have been the fastest time ever posted on U.S. soil.

Aruna Devi, from Manipur, was finally declared the winner of the women's Mumbai Marathon. Race organizers erroneously awarded the top honor to another runner when they did not realize that Devi had crossed the line minutes ahead of who they thought had won the women's race.

   Haile Gebrselassie's story set to run and run (Hindu Times)
When breathing was difficult for Haile Gebrselassie he was told to stop running all together. Since then he has become the only man to run under 2 hours and 4 minutes in the marathon. He has his eyes set on gold at the London Games in 2012.
 
 Redding Marathon

   Warm weather doesn't slow down Meissner (Record Searchlight)
The eighth annual Redding Marathon began at Shasta Damn Vista Point. Despite warmer than usual temperatures Sean Meissner of Sisters, Oregon, won the race in 2 hours, 45 minutes and 42 seconds, well ahead of second place.
 
 Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon

   Cox's 50km Bid Upstages Marathon Winners in Phoenix (IAAF)
While Josh Cox fell short of the 50km world record, Moses Kigen of Kenya won the Arizona Rock 'n' Roll marathon on Sunday, and Ukraine's Olena Shurkhno took the women's competition. Cox, who was hampered by illness, ended up with an American record of 2:47:17.

Haile Gebrselassie just missed setting a new world record in the marathon. Heavy rain and wind thwarted his effort to break the 2 hour and 4 minute barrier. The current world record hold managed to win the Dubai Marathon despite the conditions with a time of 2 hours 5 minutes and 29 seconds
 
 Houston Marathon

   Keflezighi Impresses with Dominant U.S. Half-Marathon Victory; Lewy Boulet Leads Women (Race Results Weekly)
Meb Keflezighi won the U.S. Half-Marathon Championship in Houston decisively, an impressive comeback following a difficult, injury-riddled year for the Olympic silver medalist. Magdalena Lewy Boulet won the women's national title.
 
   Records Toppled at Chevron Houston Marathon (Race Results Weekly)
Deribe Merga of Ethiopia smashed a 19-year-old Chevron Houston Marathon record with a winning time of 2:07:52, while Teyba Erkesso set a new course record for women.

100 participants in the InStep IceBreaker Indooor Marathon raced around an indoor track 95 times in order to complete the race, making a total of 381 turns in the process.

Running in circles made for an easy day for marathon spectators at the inaugural Icebreaker Indoor Marathon at the Petit Center in Wisconsin. The constant fifty-five degrees made for a fast time as Bryan Schnieder took hop top honors with a time of 2 hours and 37 minutes.

   Marathon merger expected to draw 900-plus runners to Billings for Montana Marathon (Billings Gazette)
The Governor's Cup Marathon is merging with the Montana Marathon hosted in Billings Montana. The merger is expected to draw nearly one-thousand runners, up from just over five-hundred last year.
 
 Mumbai Marathon

   Mumbai Runs Marathon for Peace, in Memory of Victims (Reuters India)
The Mumbai marathon was the city's biggest public gathering since the November terror attacks, and security was tight. More than 35,000 people registered for the race, and many displayed messages urging peace as they ran; a team from the Trident hotel, a site of violence during the attacks, ran in memory of coworkers and visitors who had been affected.

   Kenya's Kenneth Mugara wins Mumbai Marathon (USA Today)
Two-time defending champion John Kelai, from Kenya, held on to finish third at the Mumbai Marathon. His fellow countrymen Kenneth Mugara won the marathon on Sunday in a course-record 2 hours, 11 minutes, 50 seconds. Kenya's David Tarus was second. Ethiopia's Haile Kebebush won the women's race in 2 hours 34 minutes and 8 seconds.
