   Boston Marathon Champions Cheruiyot & Tune To Defend Titles (Race Results Weekly)
Robert Cheruiyot, 30 of Kenya, and Dire Tune, 23 of Ethipia, will run in the year's Boston Marathon. Cheruiyot, who won the first-ever World Marathon Majors championship, will be going for his fifth win in Boston, having finished first there in 2003 and 2006-2008. Tune will be defending her surprisingly 2008 title.

   New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon champ Autumn Ray blindsided by Hurricane Ike (Times Picayune)
Autumn Ray is set to defend her Mardigras Marathon title this coming Sunday in New Orleans. She missed her personal best last December seventh by a mere thirty-three seconds in winning the Baton Rouge Beach marathon with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes and 56 seconds.

 Carlsbad Marathon

   Ventura's Spiker wins Carlsbad Marathon (Ventura County Star)
Josh Spiker of Ventura, former University of Wisconsin distance ruuner, won the Carlsbad Marathon by nearly 2 minutes on Sunday. Runner-up Andrew Musuva has won 8 marathons, but this was Spiker's first attempt at the 26.2-mile distance.
 
   CARLSBAD MARATHON: Marathon career off to sterling start for Spiker (North County Times)
Josh Spiker was crowned the Carlsbad Marathon Overall champion with a time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 56 seconds. It was the running store managers first marathon. Nearly 10,000 runners participated in the marathon and half-marathon.
 
 Cowtown Marathon

   Cowtown Marathon champion Keith Pierce going for three-peat (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
Keith Pierce, coach of three different sports at Krum High School, is aiming to win his third consecutive Cowtown Marathon on February 28th. Pierce won the 2007 race by 12 minutes, and set a personal record of 2:23:07 at his last marathon, the Steamtown Marathon in October. Pierce would become the second ever three-time winner of the Cowtown Marathon.

   Engle wins Maui Oceanfront Marathon (Maui News)
Chuck Engle won the inaugural Maui Oceanfront Marathon in 2 hours 45 minutes and 23 seconds despite being approximately one mile longer than the intended distance of 26.2 miles. This was Engle's 5th marathon of 2009.
 
 Miami Marathon

   Italian Benazzouz Slimani wins Miami Marathon (USA Today)
Benazzouz Slimani was the first European to win the Miami Marathon despite veering off course near mile 19. Slimani finished the last 6 miles with a feverish pace to take the title in 2 hours and 16 minutes and 49 seconds.
 
   Late wrong turn at Miami Marathon leaves runner in second place (Palm Beach Post)
At the ING Miami Marathon on Sunday, Jynocel Basweti of Kenya was leading the race by 10 seconds near the 20-mile marker. He then followed a video truck which police mistakenly guided off course, and found himself 15 seconds behind by the time he got back to the course. As a gesture of sportsmanship, the directors of the race awarded Basweti $5,000, which was equal to the first-prize purse.
 
   Regional scene: Westminster woman wins Miami marathon (Rocky Mountain News)
Michele Suszek of Westminstar won the women's race at the ING Miami Marathon on Sunday. She passed the leader in the last half-mile of the course, for a winning final time of 2:43:31.
 
   Hollywood's Korir finishes fifth at Miami Marathon (South Florida Sun-Sentinel)
Mike Korir of Hollywood couldn't finish the 2005 Miami Marathon because of cramps and muscle spasms, but he crossed the finish line on Sunday in fifth place, with a time of 2:35:13. Korir passed 10 runners in the last 6 miles.

   Clown runs into the marathon record book (Oxford Mail)
Paul Fernandez, a teacher at Radley College, finished the Gloucester Marathon in full clown costume. His time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 34 seconds was more than half an hour faster than the current Guinness World Record.
 
 Osaka Int'l Ladies Marathon

   Japan's Shibui wins Osaka Women's Marathon on Sunday. (International Herald Tribune)
Japan's Yoko Shibui won the Osaka International Women's Marathon on Sunday, finishing in 2 hours, 23 minutes, 42 seconds. It was Shibui return to the race since winning the event in 2001.
 
 The Sedona Marathon

   Sedona prepares for 4th Annual Sedona Marathon (Sedona Examiner)
February seventh marks the return of the fourth annual Sedona Marathon. The race day events include the 26.2 mile marathon, half-marathon, and 5K which all begin at 8 am. One of the key features of the race is running through the red rocks of Sedona.
 
 Trinidad & Tobago Marathon

   Sawe pips Hollassie for Trinidad and Tobago marathon repeat (Trinidad Express)
Simon Sawe, a US-based Kenyan, won the CLICO Trinidad and Tobago Marathon by 1:05 on Sunday, finishing ahead of Trinidadian Ronnie Hollassie. Mary Akor, another Kenyan living in the U.S., won the women's race easily, with a time of 2:46:47. Monica Muthoni, also of Kenya, took second.
 
   Kenyans sweep Trinidad and Tobago Marathon (Newsday)
Simon Sawe, of Kenya, successfully defended his title at the Trinidad and Tobago Marathon with a winning time of time of 2 hours, 24 minutes and 6 seconds. Mary Akor, also of Kenya, won the women's marathon in 2 hours, 46 minutes and 47 seconds despite having raced a marathon last weekend.
