Looking for his 27th world record, Haile Gebrselassie says that he is feeling in better shape than he did for the 2008 Dubai Marathon. Gebrselassie says "everything has to be perfect" for him to break his world record in Dubai, but if he does, he will receive a $1 million bonus on top of the $250,000 first place prize.

The Pittsburgh Marathon returns after six years on May 3, 2009. The eighteen week training program began on Saturday with dozens of runners joining the marathon. Nearly 30 countries will be represented in the marathon. There is a half-marathon and marathon relay also available.

The First Marathon of the New Year took place in Greentree Park in Kingwood Texas as the tenth annual Texas Marathon kicked off at 7 am. The men's course record was shattered by Oklahoma City native Kurt Klewin with a time of 2 hours 42 minutes and 31 seconds.

Samuel Muturi of Kenya and Ethiopian Negari Terfa both ran personal bests at the Xiamen International Marathon. Muturi won the marathon with a new course record of 2 hours 8 minutes and 51 seconds smashing his personal best time for the marathon by nearly four minutes.
