   The Beirut Marathon Set For November 18, 2007 (The Daily Star)
The Beirut Marathon organizers look forward to a successful event and at the same time chase political goals in trying times. The marathon is also an effort to bring Lebanese of differing religious and political backgrounds together in a time of deep divisions that have paralyzed the country and, at times, spilled over into violence. The 2007 marathon will attract competitive runners, as elite athletes from across the Arab world and North Africa.

   Gebrselassie Sets Marathon Mark (Edmonton Sun)
After six failed attempts, and as people thought age might be catching up to him, the 34-year-old Ethiopian delivered at the Berlin Marathon. He set his 25th world record in two hours four minutes 26 seconds.

Haile Gebrselassie yesterday emulated one of his Ethiopian heroes, Abebe Bikila, when he broke the marathon world record by an incredible 29 seconds in Berlin.

Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie took advantage of a perfect course and ideal conditions to set a world record at the Berlin Marathon.

   Rudolph nabs Boulder Marathon title (Daily Camera)
Johannes Rudolph won the Boulder Marathon in 2:56:44. Laura Bruess ran a 3:13:49 to win the women's division of the marathon for the third time, adding to her victories from 2002 and 2003.

For the third consecutive year, the two annual road races have sold out -- even with an additional 2,000 participants allowed this year. Race day is set for Jan. 13, 2008.

   Skynrod misses goal but wins Tahoe Triple (Tahoe Daily Tribune)
Lynryd Skynrod was hoping to set the world record for three marathons on three consecutive days. Skynrod ran the first leg of the triple in 2:39, but his 3:09 on day three place the record out of reach.
 
   Weather doesn't slow down two-time Torres at Lake Tahoe Marathon (Tahoe Daily Tribune)
Despite snow at the start line for the first time in Lake Tahoe Marathon history, Tony Torres had no trouble defending his title and becoming the third back-to-back winner of the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Rebecca Eckland had the fastest time for a woman, but did not win the prize as she did not run with the elite division which started thirty minutes in front of the main field. Amy Jenkinson of Palo Alto won the elite women's division.

   American Kara Goucher Takes On Paula Radcliife and Wins! (The Times Online)
The 2007 Great North Run was abuzz with return champions and stunning upsets. The women's race was notable with the return of World Record Holder Paula Radcliffe making her long-awaited return from motherhood and injury. Although Radcliffe ran one of the fastest half marathons this year, she lost to American track star Kara Goucher who was debuting in the half marathon distance. Goucher won with a 66:57. Radcliffe was runner-up with a 67:53. In the men's race, Martin Lel defeated Half Marathon World Record Holder, Sammy Wanjiru in a final 200 meter kick. Lel finished with a 60:10.

Disappointed with a loss at the Great North Run, Paula Radcliffe insists that the Beijing Olympics are the big picture focus, and mulls over what races to tackle next. Among other requirements, Radcliffe will need to run a marathon to qualify for the UK Beijing Olympics team.

Just minutes into the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, a participant collapsed without vital signs and was taken to the hospital. Participants died in the race in the previous two years.

Kenyan John Kelai ran a 2:09:30 at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon to post the fastest marathon time ever run on Canadian soil. The results move the Toronto Waterfront Marathon into the club of marathons with a sub-2:10 record.

 Wineglass Marathon

   Winners run away with it at Wineglass Marathon (Star-Gazette)
Chris Byler won his first-ever marathon at the Wineglass Maratho in a time of 2:40:17. Natalie Goyer of Saint Bruno, Quebec, finished in 2:52:51 to place second overall and as first female.

   2:04:26 World Record for Gebrselassie in Berlin (Race Results Weekly)
Gete Wami defended her women's title, winning in 2:23:17, well ahead of Germany's marathon debutant Irina Mikitenko, who took second in 2:24:49.

   Radcliffe’s return derailed by debutante Goucher – Great North Run report (IAAF)
In her return to road racing after a twenty-one month absence, Paula Radcliffe's comeback resulted in a second-place finish (1:07:53) to Kara Goucher (1:06:57). Goucher, in her first race over 10K, ran the fastest half-marathon time ever clocked by an American. Martin Lel was the overall victor in 1:01:10, beating half-marathon world record holder Sammy Wanjiru (1:01:18).
 
   Goucher Upsets Radcliffe at Great North Run (Race Results Weekly)
Goucher, the bronze medallist in the 10,000m at last month's world championships, pulled away from the Briton over the second half of the race, clocking 1:06:57.
 
 Toronto Waterfront Marathon

   Kenyan smashes Canadian marathon mark at Toronto Waterfront Marathon (CBC Sports)
John Kelai won the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Sunday in 2:09:30, the fastest time ever run on Canadian soil and setting a new course record by forty-three seconds. Rono finished a close second in 2:09:36, while Ethiopia's Kasime Adilo was third in 2:10:20. Ethiopia's Asha Gigi won the women's race in 2:33:16, a course record for women. She was followed by Poland's Malgorzata Sobanska (2:34:21) and Russia's Alevtina Biktimirova (2:34:54).
