 Baystate Marathon

   Baystate Marathon 2009 Results (Examiner.com)
Lowell Massachusetts played host to the 2009 Bay State Marathon. More than fifteen-hundred runners competed in the rain, snow and temperatures in the thirties on the flat course. Brandon Newbould won the overall title with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 53 seconds.

   TV Chef Launches 2010 Belfast City Marathon (Belfast Telegraph)
Jenny Bristow has joined up with the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity for the 2010 RiverRock Belfast City Marathon. The Marie Curie Cancer Care is hoping to recruit fifteen-hundred people to run the marathon with Chef Bristow.
 
 Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon

   Regional Runners Dominate Bizz Johnson Races (Lassen County Times)
The sixth annual Bizz Johnson Trail race saw over six-hundred runners competing in various events. The overall marathon title went to Fred Zalokar with a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 48 seconds.
 
 Des Moines Marathon

   Marathoners Never Trained (Get It?) For This (Deadspin)
Simon Sawe was leading the Des Moines Marathon when a train brought his race to a screeching halt in the homestretch of the marathon. Runners in second and third caught Sawe. Fortunately Sawe was able to out sprint the other two runners to the finish.

Grief counseling is being offered as a free and confidential service for Detroit marathon runners, volunteers and medical personnel affected by the deaths of three participants in the half-marathon.
 
   Additional Test Required for the Three That Died in the Detroit Marathon (Examiner.com)
Autopsies were performed on the three men that died in the Detroit Marathon on Sunday. Initial autopsy results were inconclusive although doctors are saying that the three deaths are a statistical fluke.

Abebe Bikila won his second Olympic Marathon Medal forty-five years ago at the Tokyo Olympics. Just four years prior to that he won Gold at the Rome Olympics in the marathon while running the 26.2 distance barefoot.

Lee Bong-ju has capped off his twenty-year running career by winning the marathon at the National Athletics Competition in Daejeon with a gold medal time of 2 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds.

More than seven-thousand, four-hundred and forty pounds of recyclable material was collected after the Baltimore Marathon. Just over one ton of compostable material was taken from the course as well.

Daniel Langdon was the father of three who passed while running in the Detroit Marathon. It was Langdon's birthday and he collapsed between the eleven and twelve mile markers. Autopsy results are pending.

Liz Foster of Ellington was the first female finisher in the Newport Marathon with a time of 3 hours 3 minutes and 47 seconds and was sixth overall. Foster, 22, is the assistant cross country coach at the University of Hartford

Jason Finch won the Portland Marathon on October 4 with a time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 13 seconds. The Portland Marathon was Finch's fifth marathon and first victory.

Gilbert Yegon eclipsed Haile Gebrselassie's record in the Amsterdam Marathon with his winning time of 2 hours 6 minutes and 18 seconds.
 
 Columbus Marathon

   Columbus Marathon: Ohioan Sneaks in to Win Men's Division (Columbus Dispatch)
Matthew Folk watched Richard Kessio of Kenya pull away at the twenty-mile mark only to regain the lead in the final few strides as he snuck by the fading runner. Folk captured the title with a time of 2 hours 20 minutes and 45 seconds.
 
 Des Moines Marathon

   Des Moines Marathon: Train Turns Men's Race Into All-Out Sprint (Des Moines Register)
Simon Sawe was leading the Des Moines Marathon when a train brought him to a sudden stop within the last four-hundred meters. David Tuwei caught the leader but could not match Sawe's speed in the final sprint
