   Arbroath’s Wood wins top prize in Amsterdam (The Press and Journal)
Paul Kirui defeated a field of more than 6,500 to win yesterday's Amsterdam marathon in 2 hours 7 munites and 50 seconds Local runner Marion Wood of Abroath, won top prize in the women's over-50 age group with a time of 3 hours and 3 minutes as the top British runners with fifteenth place overall.
 
   Kenyans dominate Amsterdam marathon (The Standard)
Paul Kirui and Lydia Cheromei of Kenyan ruled the thirty third edition of the ING Amsterdam Marathon with victories in the men’s and women’s races. Kirui, 28, who won the 2004 World Half Marathon title, ran a tactical race in windy conditions to cut the tape first in 2:07.51.

   Kirui 2:07 and Cheromei 2:25 debut - Double Kenyan victory in Amsterdam (IAAF)
Paul Kirui won the Men's side of the ING Amsterdam Marathon and Lydia Cheromei won the Women's race. Kirui ran 2:07:52, while Cheromei ran a 2:25:57 in her debut marathon.

   Virginia runner wins Atlantic City Marathon for fourth time (Press of Atlantic City)
John Piggott of Williamsburg, Virginia, was so far ahead of the other runners at the 50th Atlantic City Marathon on Sunday morning that he passed all but one of the half-marathoners, who started at the same time and ran the same course for part of the race. The 43-year-old Piggott won the 26.2-mile race in 2 hours, 35 minutes, 41 seconds, more than 15 minutes ahead of anyone else.

   Atlantic City Marathon finisher has come a long way since heart transplant (Press of Atlantic City)
Sixty-four year old Donald Arthur finished his thirty-third marathon with the heart that he has had for just twelve years. Arthur completed his first marathon fifteen months after his heart transplant and has been completing them ever since.

   Kenya lead men's race, China dominate women's at Beijing Marathon (China View)
Nearly 30,000 participants showed up for the Beijing Marathon with Kenyan runners dominating the field in the mens marathon. They swept the top three positions, while Chinese women prevailed in the womens marathon. Kiptoo Benjamin, winner of the 2008 Brescia Marathon, finished first in two hours 10 minutes and 14 seconds, while his countrymen Luka Chelimo and Wangai Simon took the silver and bronze respectively.

The Columbus Marathon saw more than 11,500 record setting participants on Sunday morning. The revamped course included sections of the east and central campus of The Ohio State University which broke up a rather monotonous trek up High Street.

   Columbus Marathon: Former resident enjoys chilly tour of town in win (Columbus Dispatch)
Josh Ordway reeled in marathon leader Joshua Koros over the final three miles to win the 29th annual marathon in 2 hours, 23 minutes, 2 seconds. Dani Prince, the women's champion from Bloomington, Indiana won with a time of 2 hours 48 minutes and 56 seconds in her first marathon. Each won $2,500.

More than 6,000 runners and walkers from all over the world gathered to participate in the IMT Des Moines Marathon. The city of Des Moines held bragging rights as people commented on the scenic views, organization of the race and wonderful support from the town.

   Des Moines Marathon: In just third marathon, Kiprotich wins men's race (Des Moines Register)
Running in his third marathon, Geoffrey Kiprotich won the Des Moines Marathon in 2:23:56. Kiprotich said that the weather - 50s with a light breeze - was critical to his race.
 
   Des Moines Marathon: Terris makes up for '06 with fourth crown in women's race (Des Moines Register)
Wendy Terris was the women's champion of the Des Moines Marathon for the fourth time in seven years. Terris, the winner in 2002, 2003 and 2005, passed the frontrunner at mile 18 and pulled away to win in 2:49:37.

   Venues offer sightlines to watch Des Moines marathon runners (Des Moines Register)
More than 7,000 athletes will run in the the IMT Des Moines Marathon on Sunday. Fans following a particular athlete can find the runner's projected pace per mile to determine when and where he or she should reach certain points on the course. Factor in the time — up to 20 minutes in large marathons - it might take the runner to cross the start line.

From early morning, before the sun rose, the Detroit area was a buzz with activity for the Free Press Marathon. The wheelchair race began at five minutes after 7 am in the dark morning and the marathon kicked off five minutes later to the classic Van Halen tune of "Right Now".

   Kenyan wins Detroit Marathon (The Detroit News)
Marathoner David Cheruiyot won Sunday's Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon with a time of 2 hours 16 minutes and 44 seconds. Clint Verran of Rochester finished second in 2 hours 18 minutes and 21 seconds.Tetyana Byelovol, of Ukraine, who lives in Miami, won the women's marathon in 2 hours 40 minutes and 17 seconds. Mary Akor of Las Cruces, New Mexico, was second in 2 hours 41 minutes and 32 seconds.

   Greutman, Becker win Grand Rapids Marathon (The Grand Rapids Press)
Ryan Greutman of South Bend, Indiana, and Janet Becker of Grand Rapids were the men's and women's marathon winners in Sunday's 5th annual Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon. Greutman, 30, was the overall winner in a time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 43 seconds, which enabled him to beat out Josh Miller of Rockford who ran 2 hours 32 minutes and 37 seconds. Greutman's time was a new course record, breaking the mark of 2:31:47 set last year by Chuck Engle of Dublin, Ohio.

   Kansas City Marathon notebook: Number of participants is a record (Kansas City Star)
A total of 8,050 from 45 states and six countries took part in the Kansas City Marathon events - a record for the festival of races that included a maraon, half-marathon, 5K and kids running events.
 
   Kenyan woman wins Kansas City Marathon by one second (Kansas City Star)
Rael Murrey and Megan Earney raced side by side to the finish line at the Kansas City Marathon, and at the end Murrey was the winner in 2:53:04, just ahead of Earney.

   Lark leads to Mount Desert Island marathon victory (Mount Desert Islander)
The first female finisher of the Mount Desert Island Marathon, Jenna Krajewski, entered the contest on a lark the day before the race. She was in the area hiking and decided to enter for fun. The China, Maine, resident took the top women’s slot in the event on Sunday and set a new course record of 3 hours 3 minutes and 2 seconds, beating the old record set in 2007 by Judi Chiavetta by over one minute.

   Herr, Krajewski tops at Mount Desert Island Marathon (Village Soup)
The Mount Desert Island Marathon is in it's seventh year and one name has claimed the top spot five out of those seven years. David Herr continues to dominate the men's marathon and his winning time of 2 hours 36 minutes and 45 seconds. His dominance in the race has only been surpassed by the course record of 2 hours 32 minutes and 14 seconds which is held by 2005 champion Judson Cake who opted not to run the race this year.
