   Baltimore Marathon Collects Tons for Recycling (The Baltimore Sun)
More than seven-thousand, four-hundred and forty pounds of recyclable material was collected after the Baltimore Marathon. Just over one ton of compostable material was taken from the course as well.

Lowell Massachusetts played host to the 2009 Bay State Marathon. More than fifteen-hundred runners competed in the rain, snow and temperatures in the thirties on the flat course. Brandon Newbould won the overall title with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 53 seconds.

Jenny Bristow has joined up with the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity for the 2010 RiverRock Belfast City Marathon. The Marie Curie Cancer Care is hoping to recruit fifteen-hundred people to run the marathon with Chef Bristow.

The sixth annual Bizz Johnson Trail race saw over six-hundred runners competing in various events. The overall marathon title went to Fred Zalokar with a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 48 seconds.

Joseph Ekoum, of Kenya, cruised to an easy win at the Cape Cod Marathon with a time of 2 hours 33 minutes and 13 seconds which was nearly four minutes ahead of second place.

Des Moines Marathon race director Chris Burch is hoping to catch a break during the marathon. The 2007 half-marathon saw the two-leaders taking a wrong turn and never getting back on course. The 2009 marathon leaders were held up by a passing train less than one quarter of a mile from the finish line.

Simon Sawe was leading the Des Moines Marathon when a train brought his race to a screeching halt in the homestretch of the marathon. Runners in second and third caught Sawe. Fortunately Sawe was able to out sprint the other two runners to the finish.

Grief counseling is being offered as a free and confidential service for Detroit marathon runners, volunteers and medical personnel affected by the deaths of three participants in the half-marathon.
 
   Additional Test Required for the Three That Died in the Detroit Marathon (Examiner.com)
Autopsies were performed on the three men that died in the Detroit Marathon on Sunday. Initial autopsy results were inconclusive although doctors are saying that the three deaths are a statistical fluke.

Daniel Langdon was the father of three who passed while running in the Detroit Marathon. It was Langdon's birthday and he collapsed between the eleven and twelve mile markers. Autopsy results are pending.

The benefits of training for a marathon outweigh the risks. A London based study showed that only one in sixty-seven thousand marathon runners will die due to causes linked to the race.

   Swartz Tops All Women in Humboldt Redwoods Marathon (Napa Vallley Register)
Lauren Swartz won the women's division of the Humboldt Redwoods Marathon in her debut with the 26.2 mile distance. Her time of 3 hours 27 minutes and 50 seconds just edged out second place women's finsher Laura Chapman by 25 seconds.

Two weeks after her fourth place finish at the World Half Marathon Championships, Caroline Cheptanui Kilel won the women's division of the fourteenth annual Ljubljana Marathon with a time of 2 hours 25 minutes and 24 seconds.
