 Dubai Marathon

   Gebrselassie to Run Dubai Marathon (Gulf News)
Just moments after his world record setting Berlin Marathon, Haile Gebrselassie has signed on to run the Dubai Marathon and chase the one million dollar winners prize as well as a one million dollar bonus for setting the world record which now stands at 2 hours, 3 minutes and 59 seconds.

   Strong African presence in Kosice Marathon (IAAF)
The International Peace Marathon, first held in 1924 in Kosice will see its 85th edition on Sunday 5 October. Last year’s race witnessed the first ever sub 2:10 marathon in the history of this event. The 2 hour, 9 minute and 53 second win, registered by Kenyan William Biama, was also the fastest in Slovakia. This years field promises to deliver another fast time with over ten Africans who have run in the 2 hour 11 minute to 2 hour and 15 minute range.

   85 Year Old Set to Run 100th Marathon at Lakefront Marathon (WTMJ 620)
Paul Gionfriddo has run a marathon in all fifty states and, at the age of 83, he will run his 100th race at Milwaukee's Lakefront marathon where it all began. Gionfriddo began running marathons when he was 60 and could run a 7 minute mile. He has slowed to 12 minute miles but still puts in 20 to 30 miles per week.

Kris Hinrichs, race director for Lakefront Marathon, denied Jason Pisano an early start option of 5 am for the Lakefront Marathon. Pisano, who is physically challenged, stated that he would need the extra time to complete the 26.2 mile race ahead of the 2:30 pm start.

Dick Beardsley will headline the expo speaker line up at the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. Beardsley will discuss his addiction to pain pills and hopes to encourage young people to stay clear of addictions. He will also be speaking about his running and life experiences at the expo.

Runners from more than 25 countries have confirmed their participation in the twenty-second Marabana International Marathon, scheduled for November 16 in Cuba. The race is set to mark the 489th anniversary of Havana.

Joseph Kibunja who could be the wild card contestant for the title at the New Jersey Marathon. He will be set loose from his blind running companion, Henry Wanyoike, who will be guided by course volunteers. The other new comer who will challenge for the title is UK runner Colin Deasy.

He is joined by a hose of nearly 20 other U.S. men with personal bests of 2 hours and 20 minutes or below.

   Twin Cities Marathon, construction to close roads Downtown (Milwaukee Downtown Journal)
The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and 10 Mile race will leave travelers in a bit of a quandry. The roads will be closed to allow for over 15,000 runners and walkers to traverse the city roads starting at the Dome and finishing at the capitol in downtown St.Paul.

Mark Cawthorne, a fitness instructor, paced a friend to a five hour and thirty minute marathon at the Berlin Marathon. The heat of the day made the race a little more challenging. Cawthorne finished the race along with 38,000 other runners who made the Berling Marathon a special event.

Runners in the 2008 ING Hartford MArathon will notice a new orange street sign -- "ING Hartford Marathon Way" -- hanging at the corner of Trinity and Elm Streets near Bushnell Park. Participants can also expect to see several new greener spots along the course thanks to a ten-thousand dollar donation from the ING Foundation to help plant trees along the course in keeping with their "eco-friendly" vision for the marathon.

   Registration is Open for the 2009 Rockford Marathon (WIFR)
The 2009 edition of the Rockford Marathon will start at 7 am on the corners of State and Wyman in downtown Rockford. The 2008 version drew more than 1,200 athletes for the marathon and half marathon. The race is slated for Sunday May 17, 2009
 
 St. George Marathon

The Twin Cities marathon wants participants to know that the ban on electronic devices, including headphones, mp3 players and radios will be enforced this weekend. The Twin Cities Marathon disqualified nearly 100 runners last year for the rule violation. Safety is the major reason for the rule enforcement.
 
   Twin Cities Marathon: Unsung harrier (Star Tribune)
Matt Gabrielson sells running shoes, coaches high school cross country and is the announcer for local track meets. He was also 8th place in the men's 5000 meter Olympic Trials in June. Few people if any recognize him as a professional runner and he has signed less than 10 autographs.
