   Crossroads Marathon Review (Lubbock Running Examiner)
The first Crossroads Marathon was hosted in Odessa Texas on October 3. Novel Gaitan won the overall marathon with a time of 2 hours 52 minutes and 32 seconds. Rachael Fisher won the women's marathon with a time of 3 hours 43 minutes and 20 seconds.

   Running on Pickle Juice: Marathoners Find a Sour Solution to Muscle Cramps (MLive.com)
Dr. Rick Ganzi learned from a body builder that pickle juice may cure the cramps that he suffered in the marathon. From personal experience Dr. Ganzi has not cramped since he started drinking pickle juice before his long distance races.
 
   The Fleeting Benefits of Marathons (Walt Street Journal)
Nearly seventy-five thousand runners will compete in some of the largest marathons in the country. But for most the training will culminate with one day of running 26.2 miles and will not last much past that goal.

The fourth annual Spirit of Survival Marathon kicked off on October 3 near Lawton Oklahoma. Bart Yasso was the featured speaker at the pasta dinner. The mostly flat course is the only marathon run in a National Wildlife Refuge.

   Royal Victoria Marathon Sets Registration Records; 8K is Second Race to Sell Out (Times Colonist)
The Royal Victoria Marathon sets off on October 11 and the half-marathon filled to five-thousand runners and the 8K race has reached it's twenty-five hundred runner capacity. The marathon is well above three-thousand registrants and on its way to a record.

   Running From Recession: Runner Chases Job, Marathon Dream (Daily Herald)
Bob Dunn lost his management position this year and decided to join forty-five thousand other runners running in the Chicago Marathon because he now has the time to train for the 26.2 mile distance.
 
 City of Trees Marathon

   Ahansal, Stickel Win City of Trees Marathon (Idaho Statesman)
Mohamad Ahansal won the overall title in the City of Trees Marathon with a time of 2 hours 43 minutes and 25 seconds. Amanda Stickel ran to the women's top spot with a time of 3 hours 1 minute and 43 seconds.

   Free Press/ Flagstar Marathon Deadline is Today (Free Press)
The thirty-second annual Detroit Marathon kicks off on October 18 and all relay teams must have their individual runners registered by today. A record number of participants is expected for this year's marathon.
 
 Johnstown Marathon

   Virginia Man, Former IUP Runner Win Johnstown Marathon (The Tribune-Democrat)
Karsten Brown captured his first YMCA Johnstown Marathon title after running the marathon for thirteen years in a row. His finish time was 2 hours 45 minutes and 35 seconds.

   Violation Takes Title From Top Finisher at Lakefront Marathon (JournalSentinel)
Jennifer Goebel was awarded the top spot in the female category of the Lakefront Marathon when Cassie Peller was disqualified for taking aid outside of the established course aid stations.

   Tonui Turns in Record Run to Claim Title (The Press and Journal)
Simon Tonui outdistanced more than three-thousand runners with a time of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 13 seconds to break the marathon course record at Loch Ness. David Kirkland found him self in second place for the second year in a row.
 
 Maine Marathon

   A Little Focus-Pocus at the Maine Marathon (Portland Press Herald)
The overall men's and women's Maine Marathon winners had some extra motivation to push through the final miles. Jeremy Adler won the men's title with a time of 2 hours 38 minutes and 57 seconds inspired by his college professor who is battling Lou Gehrigs Disease.

   Top Runner Takes Over Saint John Marathon By the Sea. (CBCNews.ca)
Alex Coffin placed second in the Marathon by the Sea in Saint John at the 2009 edition of the race. Coffin, a local fitness store owner, will organize the 2010 event in hopes of increasing the number of participants.

Rick and Dick Hoyt have put together marathons and ironman distance triathlons. Consider that Dick is pushing his son, Rick, in a wheelchair along the marathon course and the duo have done more than two-hundred triathlons.

   Ruto Breaks Course Record in Cologne With 2:08:36 (IAAF.org)
Evans Kipkosgei Ruto took top honors in the Cologne Marathon with a new course record of 2 hours 8 minutes and 36 seconds. Sabrina Mockenhaupt was the women's winner in 2 hours 30 minutes and 12 seconds.
 
   Debutante Burkovska and Chesire Take Kosice International Peace Marathon Titles (IAAF.org)
Olena Burkovska set a new course record in the International Peace Marathon in Slovakia with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes and 50 seconds. Jacob Chesire of Kenya won the Men's Marathon title with a time of 2 hours 10 minutes and 59 seconds.

   Paula Radcliffe Forced Out of World Half-Marathon Because of Tonsillitis (Telegraph.co.uk)
Paula Radcliffe has been force to rest this weekend due to tonsillitis and will miss the World Half-Marathon Championships in Birmingham. Radcliffe also missed the World Athletics Championships in Berlin last month while recovering from a foot operation.
 
 Portland Marathon

   Portland Marathon: Jason Finch, Yuri Yoshizumi are Overall Winners (Oregon live)
Jason Finch won the overall title at the Portland Marathon with a time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 13 seconds. Yuri Yoshizumi of Japan crossed the finish line as the first woman with a time of 2 hours 55 minutes and 59 seconds.

   Record Year For Portland Marathon (KGW.com)
Over twelve-thousand runners and forty-five hundred volunteers helped to create a record at the thirty-eighth running of the Portland Marathon which has been dubbed the nation's best-organized marathon by a national running magazine.
 
   Portland Marathon Has Record Year in PDX, Iraq (KATU)
The Portland Marathon brought thousands of runners to the downtown area of the thirty-eighth running of the 26.2 mile race. Shadow marathons were held at three different bases in Iraq as part of the Wounded Warrior Project.

Iain Hunter edged out Jeffrey McClellan by just under a minute to win the overall title of the St. George Marathon. Julie Thomas won the women's marathon with a time of 2 hours 48 minutes and 14 seconds.

   Wineglass Marathon: Byler, Goyer win third straight titles (Corning Leader)
Chris Byler and Nathalie Goyer each faced a record number of participants in the wine glass marathon. Both runners managed to hold off the crowds and secure their third Wineglass Marathon victory.

   Meb Keflezighi Wins San Jose Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Setting a New 20K American Record En Route (Examiner.com)
Meb Keflezighi ran most of the San Jose Half Marathon alone and won with a time of 1 hour and 1 minute. His 20k time split was 57 minutes and 52 seconds which is an unofficial American 20K record.
 
 St. George Marathon

   Victory At Last In St. George Marathon (The Spectrum)
Iain Hunter won the 2009 St. George Marathon with his time of 2:21:03.
