   Adukpo, Millicent win Accra Milo Marathon (Joy Online)
21-year-old Godwin Adukpo and Millicent Boadi, 26, won the men and ladies’ races respectively in this year’s Accra Milo Marathon on Saturday. Adukpo o victory in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 27 seconds, five clear minutes ahead of veteran and event record holder, David Zigah, who clocked 2:35:46.

The Bass Pro Shops second annual marathon will be held this weekend in conjunction with the Fitness Festival. More than 700 volunteers and 5,000 participants from 20 states are expected to show up for the list of activities including the marathon, half-marathon, 5K run and walk and games.

   Training together helps runners complete Baystate Marathon (The Republican)
Meaghan Mathews,Springfield, and Kathy Lynch, South Hadley ran a high number of mileage together while training for the Bay State Marathon, the largest marathon in the state. Mathews nipped Lynch at the line for fourth place with a time of 3 hours and 4 seconds. Lynch was just six second off her shoulder.

   Cape Cod Marathon: Fisher, Westerling win (Cape Cod Times)
The first time was a charm for Mike Fisher in the 31st Dunkin' Donuts Cape Cod Marathon. With balmy 65 degree temperatures at the start of the race at 8:30 a.m., the 24-year-old Brookline resident finished well ahead of the pack yesterday, with a winning time of 2 hours 33 minutes and 12 seconds in his first-ever marathon. In the women's race, 27-year-old Heidi Westerling, of Acworth, N.H., won for the fourth straight year with a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 43 seconds.

Alina Ivanova, Russia, joined over 11,700 runners for the Dublin Marathon on Monday Morning. The field of runners consisted of fifty-seven percent local runners. The women participating made up roughly one third of the field showing a dramatic increase over last year.

With a record field of 11,700 particpants in the Dublin Marathon, Andriy Naumov,Ukraine, won the Dublin Marathon in a time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 7 seconds. Larissa Zousko, who finished a close second in last year Dublin Marathon, returned this year to win the distance in a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 55 seconds.

The MTN Kampala International Marathon is set for November 23. Race officials have set out to have members of the World Anti-Doping Federation to randomly test the elite athletes. In order to secure international status with the IAAF, random drug test and official course certification are required.

First-time marathoners won the men's and women's divisions of the 33rd Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday. Andrew Dumm of Washington took first in the men's marathon in 2 hours, 22 minutes, 42 seconds, and Cate Fenster of Wooster, Ohio, led the women's field in 2 hours 39 minutes and 32 seconds.

Nearly 300 portable restrooms will adorn central park on Sunday morning for finishers and spectators of the New York City Marathon. Roughly 1,700 of the multi-colored 7 foot waste facilities have been set up at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island for the start of the 26.2 mile journey.

The 1970 New York City Marathon had only 127 runners and no one mentioned injury. Last year the number of participants reached over 39,000. The new staggered start for the New York City Marathon will leave the bridge to Brooklyn closed on Sunday morning for several hours. The Staten Island Expressway ramps along with roads near the bridge will close as early as 11 pm on Saturday night.

Paul Tergat, 39, stated Thursday that he should not be discounted for the overall title. Tergat's victory over Hendrick Ramaala by three tenths of a seconds in 2005 was named by the New York Road Runners club as the fourth greatest race in the club's history. Simon Wangai was a lumberman in Kenya and a runner. Hosea Rotich was a sworn forest ranger paid to protect the trees from poachers. The two were thrown into an altercation and managed to become friends and great runners. Wangai was third in the Beijieng Marathon and Rotich is a favorite in this weekends New York City Marathon.
