 Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon

   Large Turnout At Chickamauga Battlefield Races (Chattanoogan)
The Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon, 10 Mile Race and Junior Marathon included the largest turn out in recent memory, with 482 runners participating in the marathon, 411 participating in the 10 mile race, and 136 children taking part in Junior Marathon.

   Death of Olympic Trials Marathoner Shay Prompts Search For Answers (USA Today)
Medical researches are looking for answers in the death of Ryan Shay. Ryan's father, Joe Shay, stated that Ryan was diagnosed with and enlarged heart at 14 and repeatedly cleared by medical doctors to run and compete. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the scientific term for an enlarged hearts is often indiscernible in elite endurance athletes.

   Amsterdam Marathon Ranked Number One For Speed In 2007 (European Athletics)
Despite World Record holder Paula Radcliffe's best efforts to tear up the tarmac in New York, the Amsterdam Marathon remains at the top of the World rankings of fastest Marathon cities of 2007.

If Katie Holmes had been disqualified for violating the no headphone rules would anyone have really cared. But why was she not the recipient of a DQ? Grandma's marathon enforced the rule and disqualified 30 runners for wearing headphones.

   Action Starts Early at U.S. Marathon Trials (Detroit Free Press)
I came across the group at 6 a.m., in the predawn darkness of Saturday's U.S. Olympic men's marathon trials. I remember the time because I wrote it in my notebook under the glare of headlights on Central Park West in New York City. It was 1 1/2 hours before the race, but Eileen O'Dowd was already busy at work. She was near a folding table distributing T-shirts promoting the 13 Olympic trials qualifiers from the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in Rochester Hills.

   'Glitch' Causes Some Incorrect Finishing Times at NYC Marathon (Bloomberg)
Richard Finn is expected to release a statement regarding finishing times of a few of the 39,000 runners in Sundays NYC Marathon. A glitch in the timing pad used to time the runners by electronic chip affected some of their overall finish times. It is not known yet exactly which runners were affected or how many. Elite athletes have a separate start line where times were not affected.

Garland Carlton, 67, of Midlothian is no stranger to the Richmond Marathon. Having completed the first 29, he will join 6 others trying to finish all 30 races and they will have 11,000 other participants to help them this weekend.

   Hawaii marathon attracting Japanese (Honolulu Advertiser)
Dr. Barahal, race director for the Honolulu Marathon, states the number of Japanese Marathon runners entering this years marathon is on the rise. The race entry deadline is Nov 9th with on-site registration going up through Decemeber 9th.

   Katie Holmes' New York City Marathon day (The Dallas Morning News)
Katie Holmes ran the 26.2 miles of the New York City Marathon on Sunday, but that still wasn't far enough to distance herself from Hubby. Tom Cruise was waiting at the finish line, along with the couple's Scientolotot, Suri. Katie finished the marathon with a time of 5:29:58, good enough for 34,193rd place. That evening she was sufficiently recov- ered to loom over Tom at a screening of his movie Lions for Lambs at the Museum of Modern Art.

Matt Wegenka, amidst worries of Kenyans racing him him in in the Bass Pro Springfield Marathon, went on to win the race in 2 hours and 34 minutes to claim his 1000 dollar pay day.

   'Marathon Junkie' sets record time in Marshall Marathon (The Hearald Dispatch)
Chuck Engle took the early lead and went on to smash the Marshall University course record by over 10 minutes to win the marathon in 2 hours 34 minutes

The race may have been overshadowed nationally by the New York City Marathon, but the Marshall Marathon in Huntington is getting its legs. The race field increased by 40 percent to more than 850 runners and it's only in its fourth year. There was record participation Sunday and also record times set in both the half and full marathon.
