 Austin Marathon

   Austin Marathon tops list of green races (Austin 360)
With 14,375 pounds of trash recycled last year it is no wonder the Austin Marathon has been named to Runners World Magazines “Top 10 Greenest Races” in North America”. The Austin races have less trash, more recycling, no toxic chemicals in portable restrooms, composted food waste and solar power among a host of other "greener" implementations.
 
 Pasadena Marathon

   Pasadena Marathon canceled due to smoky air from Los Angeles fire (Mercury News)
The raging fires in Los Angeles Country forced the cancellation of the inaugural Pasadena Marathon. Race organizers made the decision to cancel the event two hours before the bike tour and marathon events were scheduled to begin. Organizers will meet in the next few days to reschedule the event.
 
 Pittsburgh Marathon

   700 signed up for revived Pittsburgh marathon (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
Over seven hundred athletes have signed up for the revived Pittsburgh Marathon. The last marathon in the city took place in 2003 and race organizers are hoping the the new race on May 3 will be a sustainable race for years.

   San Antonio marathon easily exceeds expectations (My San Antonio)
Over 24,000 participants enjoyed the festivities at the San Antonio Marathon Weekend. Meschack Kirwa of Kenya pulled away to win the overall title in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 38 seconds. Romania’s Nuta Olaru won the women’s title with a time of 2 hours 28 minutes and 53 seconds.
 
 Route 66 Marathon

   Runner dies Sunday at Tulsa World Route 66 Marathon (Tulsa World)
The mens and womens course records were broken at Sunday's Route 66 Marathon but the great day of running was overshadowed by the death of 21 year old man who collapsed while running the half-marathon.
 
 White River Marathon for Kenya (prev Mountain Home Marathon for Kenya)

   Hogue captures Mountain Home Marathon (The Baxter Bulletin)
Charlie Hogue of Wasola Missouri was the third new champion in as many years at the Mountain Home Marathon. Over 250 runners participated in the weekend running events with Hogue taking top honors in the marathon with a time of 3 hours and 13 minutes. He ran the Bass Pro Marathon one week earlier with a time of 2 hours and 53 minutes.

 Palm Beaches Marathon Festival

   Marathon of the Palm Beaches needs volunteers for expo, races (Palm Beach Daily News)
The Marathon of the Palm Beaches will kick off race weekend events with a health and fitness expo starting at 9 am on December 5. Race organizers are seeking volunteers to help set up the expo and help with other events surrounding the expo and marathon.

Santa Anna winds and California fires raised some concerns for race organizers of the first annual Pasadena Marathon. Despite rising smoke in the area race official will kick off the inaugural event on Sunday Morning.

   5-mile run to help kick off Pittsburgh Marathon (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
After a six year hiatus, the Pittsburgh Marathon will return to the city on May 3, 2009. Sunday marks a five mile kick off race for the event that will include official course measurement and certification.

   Kenyan beats last year's winner in Richmond marathon (Richmond Times Dispatch)
Jynocel Basweti, 22, of Kenya made sure there would not be a photo finish at the thirty-first running of the Richmond Marathon. Basweti lept through the finish line in 2 hours 22 minutes and 22 seconds, nearly two and a half minutes ahead of second place.
 
 Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 Marathon

   San Antonio Marathon will start with chilly weather (My San Antonio)
Temperatures for the inaugural Rock N Roll San Antonio Marathon were expected to dip into the lower thirties for the 7:30 am marathon race start. Cold air and freezing temperatures are sweeping across much of Texas.
 
 Tokyo International Women's Marathon

   Japan's Ozaki wins Tokyo women's marathon (International Herald Tribune)
Japan's Yoshimi Ozaki put in a late surge to power past Yoko Shibui to win the Tokyo International Women's Marathon in 2 hours 23 minutes and 30 seconds. Yuri Kano would finish second in 2 hours 24 minutes and 27 seconds at Shibui faded out of the podium spots after sharing the lead through 38 kilometers.

 Georgia Marathon

   US Road Sports Names Hughes Race Director of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon (Pitch Engine)
Michael Huges, a veteran of the Atlanta Track Club will take over as race director for the ING Georgia Marathon. U.S. Road Sports and Entertainment Group, who own the marathon, announced that Hughes will be in charge of the March 29th marathon.
 
 Pasadena Marathon

   Runners Gear up for Inaugural Pasadena Marathon (Whittier Daily News)
The Inaugural Pasadena Marathon will kick off this Sunday and many of the 8,000 expected participants flooded the Pasadena Convention Center on Friday to pick up race packets. Race organizers expect a warm day but say they are prepared for the conditions.

   Kenyan marathoner plans to honor friend in San Antonio Marathon (My San Antonio)
Margaret Okayo has been plagued over the last two years with tendon injuries. She has held course records at Boston and New York Marathons. Okayo will make the trip to San Antonio as a return to running and to honor long time friend Mike Long who passed away last summer of an apparent heart attack.
 
 Sudbury Rocks!!! Race, Run or Walk for Diabetes

   Participate or Volunteer in Northern Ontario's largest distance running event: Sudbury Rocks Marathon (UR Sudbury)
Over 1600 participants are expected for the Sudbury Rocks Marathon on May 3, 2009. There are five events including the marathon, half-marathon, 10 kilometer, 5 kilometer and 1 kilometer kids run.
 
 Tokyo International Women's Marathon

   Yamauchi seeks victory in Tokyo Marathon (Athletics Weekly)
Liz McColgan was the last British woman to win the Tokyo International Womens Marathon in 1991. Mara Yamauchi, a Britain based Japanese woman will hope to add her name to the list. Her most recent races show her as one of the favorites for the overall win even at the age of 35.

   Los Angeles Marathon's new date criticized (San Diego Union Tribune)
The Los Angeles Marathon, under new ownership, has pushed it's date to Memorial Day weekend. The second race date change for the marathon. The race is now just six days before another regional marathon in San Diego and drawing heavy criticism for the move.
 
 Richmond Marathon

   Race weekend sets participation record for the Richmond Marathon. (Richmond Times Dispatch)
The Richmond Marathon smashed the one year old participation record by over 3,000 runners. Race organizers have stated the the addition of the half marathon boosted numbers to well over the 14,000 mark.
 
 Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 Marathon

   Runners are coming from all over to San Antonio Marathon (Dallas News)
The San Antonio Marathon has exceeded expectations by about 15,000 runners. Race organizers had hoped to reach the 15,000 participant mark for weekend events. The race had to be capped when it approached 30,000 runners from 50 states and 18 countries.

   San Antonio Marathon to make mark (San Antonio Express News)
The San Antonio Marathon has made a mark on St. John's Lutheran Church. The church has moved services to 5 pm on Saturday night in hopes of attracting out of town runners and spectators from the San Antonio Marathon. The marathon start close to the church on Sunday morning and usually impedes those traveling to church.
 
 Tokyo International Women's Marathon

   Alemu pulls out of Tokyo Marathon (The Daily Yomiuri)
Ethiopian Elfenesh Alemu has pulled out of the Tokyo International Women's Marathon due to an injury to her buttocks. The 2003 Tokyo Champion placed third in both 2004 and 2005. This is the 30th year for the race and will be discontinued.

   Mountain Home Marathon expects over 350. (The Baxter Bulletin)
The Mountain Home for Kenya Marathon enters its fifth year. The 2007 race had 350 participants and race director, Laurie Kasinger, expects 70 or 80 to sign up at tonight's pasta dinner at the local Mountain Home high school

   Six Marathons in Six Weeks (Northumberland News)
Ken Stubbings ran his first marathon in 2002. Since that first 26.2 mile race he has managed to add a race each year to his schedule. He was challenged to up the distance a little and finish 2008 with a big bang by finishing six marathons in six weeks across Canada. Oddly enough his times are getting lower and not slower.
 
 Pune International Marathon

The Pune International Marathon will kick off on December 7th. International runners slated for the race include athletes from 23 countries. Well over 50,000 runners are expected to participate in the largest race in the country.
 
 Richmond Marathon

Running 26.2 miles is a difficult task and the training for such a race is more arduous than most expect. Walter Bullock adds six thousand miles of travel into that training all for the love of his 73 year old mother.

The Inaugural Rock N Roll San Antonio Marathon is expected to be the largest inaugural marathon in history. Hotel rooms are packed solid as just over two-thirds of the registrants are from outside the city.
 
   Cult brings rock to Rock N Roll San Antonio Marathon (My San Antonio)
The concert finale of the Rock N Roll Marathon will feature the CULT. The concert will be held Sunday night at the Alamodome starting at 8:30 pm. The band will feature 80's and 90's hits from the bands early start as well as new recordings.

   Two Cities Marathon focuses on bigger, better '09 (Fresno Bee)
Co-race director of the Two Cities Marathon, Mike Herman, said that the emails in his in-box are generally positive about the inaugural race. Herman hopes to grow the overall participation to 10,000 runners over the next five years.

 City of Oaks Marathon

   Almost last, but no loser at City of Oaks Marathon (The News and Observer)
Cassidy Sitton did not finish last in the City of Oaks Marathon despite her time of 6 hours and 45 minutes. At 24 years of age, most would think the triathlete could have mustered a slightly better performance. She only ran 2 miles the week before as a training plan.
