 Honolulu Marathon

   Honolulu Marathon Sees Drop In Entrants (KITV)
The Honolulu Marathon takes place on December 14 and brings in over one-hundred million dollars to the local economy. The number of runners registering for the race is far below the same time period one year ago. Local businesses are growing concerned about the loss of income from participants
 
   90 year-old woman chases marathon record at Honolulu Marathon (UPI)
Gladys Burrill will make her fifth Honolulu Marathon an attempt to set a world record. On December 14, Burrill will run the 26.2 mile race and if she finishes the distance in under eight and one half hours she will hold the age group world record.

April 19 will mark the start of the Kansas Marathon. Race day events will include the 26.2 mile distance as well as a half-marathon and a five kilometer race. Organizers expect well over 1500 participants for the inaugural event.

The Knoxville Marathon organizers have announced that the Knoxville Marathon kids run will be held at 6 pm on Saturday to help increase the overall participation for the March 29th event. Race officials hope to double or triple the size of the event with the move to the night before the marathon.

The Flora London Marathon has announced it's stunning list of entries for the 2009 marathon event. Signed athletes include three time winner and defending champion Martin Lel. The 2008 Olympic Marathon champion Sammy Wanjiru will join the silver and bronze Olympic medalists for the London race as well.

After winning the London Marathon is 2005,2007 and setting a course record of 2 hours 5 minutes and 15 seconds, Martin Lel will attempt to win the London Marathon in 2009 at the age of 30. Sammy Wanjiru, the 1008 Olympic marathon champion, will be chasing after Lel for the title.

As if a cap of 6300 runners was not enough for the California International Marathon organizers have opened the doors for 250 more participants. The 250 spots will pay two-hundred dollar instead of the regular 75 dollars. The extra fifty thousand will go toward trail improvements.
