		2500th Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon Approaches - Athens Classic Marathon 2010 (IAAF.org) The Battle of Marathon took place around 490 BC. The Athens Classic Marathon will be held in October of 2010 and will be the 2500th historical anniversary of what has become known as the first marathon.
