   2500th Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon Approaches - Athens Classic Marathon 2010 (IAAF.org)
The Battle of Marathon took place around 490 BC. The Athens Classic Marathon will be held in October of 2010 and will be the 2500th historical anniversary of what has become known as the first marathon.

   2009 Atlanta Marathon and Half-Marathon Recap (Competitor.com)
More than eleven-thousand runners participated in the Atlanta Marathon and Half-marathon. Nathan Tew and Eileen Torres claimed the top honors in the men and women's marathon while Michael Green and Janet Cherobon won the overall titles in the half-marahton.

The Big Sur Marathon has been named to the top three marathons in the U.S. by Runners World magazine surpassed only by New York and Boston. The marathon is traditionally held the last Sunday in April.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office finalized the autopsy of the three men who died while running the Detroit Free Press Flagstar Marathon in October. The autopsy suggeste that two of the men suffered from cardiac dysrhthmia and passed away from heart attacks.

Kenyan Ben Chebet Kipruto took top honors at the Florence Marathon with a time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 21 seconds holding off Reuben Kosgei by one second. Eva Marja won the women's title in 2 hours 35 minutes and 41 seconds.

   10,000 Completed Kampala Marathon (Sunday Monitor)
Organizers of the Kampala Marathon stated that more than nineteen-thousand runners registered for the race. Only two-hundred and three finished the marathon with nine-thousand, eight-hundred, and seventy-nine finishing the 10K race.

Defending Olympic Marathon Champion Sammy Wanjiru was put to the test in the Great Australian Run. Gunther Weidlinger upstaged the publicity dominating Wanjiru by winning the race in forty-three minutes and 1 second.

   Raleigh's John Crews Wins Philadelphia Marathon (The Raleigh Telegram)
John Crews won on of the largest marathons in the U.S. on November 22. The twenty-five year old from Raleigh won the marathon in a time of 2 hours 17 minutes and 15 seconds.

   24th Pune International Marathon to Flag Off on December 6 (Press Trust of India)
