 Jacksonville Marathon

   First-timer, veteran win Jacksonville Bank marathon. (Jacksonville.com)
Austin Richmond won the Jacksonville Bank Marathon with a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 11 seconds to beat second place by over 7 minutes. Kim Pawelek, a three time Olympic Trials runner, suffered from stomach cramps and still walked away with a six minute margin of victory with a time of 2 hours 55 minutes and 37 seconds.

   First press conference after reopening of Trident hotel for Mumbai Marathon (Zee News)
Three weeks after terrorist attacks claimed the lives of more than two-hundred people, the Trident Hotel has reopened its doors for the the Standard Chartered Marathon Mumbai Marathon. The marathon is scheduled for January 18 and the organizers of the marathon will use the opening to show people that "nothing will desist us from our paths".
 
   Mumbai joins NY, Madrid marathon club (Times of India)
New York city had one of the world's most deadly terrorist attacks in 2001, while Madrid suffered a similar fate in 2004. Each city came back with a resounding marathon effort to fly in the face of terrorism. Mumbai has now added it's name to this short list.

   Kenyan runners sweep titles in ING Taipei marathon (Daily Times)
Carolina Kilel of Kenya walked away with the women's overall victory and forty one thousand dollars at Sundays' Taipei marathon as she broke the marathon women’s record and bagged a new personal best. Sammy Chumba lead all comers in a Kenyan dominated field with winning time of 2 hours 15 minutes and 37 seconds to take home just over twenty thousand dollars in prize money.

   Mumbai Marathon to Go Ahead in January Amid Tighter Security (Bloomberg)
More than two-hundred fifty thousand dollars will draw over thirty-thousand runners to Asia's largest marathon despite the terrorists attacks in November. The January race will proceed as scheduled with much tighter security than in previous years.

Road closures for the ING Taipei Marathon will have several area roads closed from 5 am until 2 pm for the largest marathon in that country over the last 4 years. Nearly 110,000 runners are expected for the days events.

Kara Goucher set American records for the fastest American woman marathon debut and the fastest New York Marathon run by an American woman this past month. She will now turn her sights on the 113th running of the Boston Marathon on April 20th.

   Dubai Marathon to break records (Gulf News)
The Dubai Marathon is expected to break it's previous registration record of twenty thousand participants for the marathon, 10K and 3K races combined. The marathon already has double the number of registrants from this time last year.

   Honolulu Marathon resident winners determined (Star Bulletin)
Matthew Stevens was the lead resident male of the Honolulu Marathon with a time of 2 hours and 51 minutes. Susan Burr was the first female resident winner of the marathon with a time of 3 hours and 15 minutes. Both were determined winners by Jon Cross.

Over tweny-thousand runners finished the Honolulu marathon. The race offer lower than normal temperatures and heavy downpours which turned the finish line at Kapi'olani Park in a mud pit.

Torrential rains and the footsteps of nearly 20000 runners have made a mess of Kapiolani Park near the finish line of the Honolulu Marathon. Park officials are blaming the city for using heavy vehicles and large stakes that seem to do the most damage to the grass, tree roots and irrigation system.

   Wind hurts times at Dallas White Rock Marathon (Dallas News)
Larry Barthlow said that runners cannot run fast with sustained winds of twenty five miles per hour and gust nearly the thirty five mile an hour mark. Fifteen thousands runners were lead by the slowest winning time since 2002 and the slowest women's winning time since 2004.

   White Rock Marathon runner, 29, collapses, dies (Dallas News)
Erin Lahr,29, was only three miles from the finish of the Dallas White Rock Marathon when she collapsed on the course. She was pronounced dead about twenty minutes later at Baylor University Medical Center

   Ivuti, Shimahara win at Honolulu Marathon (USA Today)
Spurred on by President-elect Barrack Obama's sister pre-race speech, Patrick Ivuti won the Honolulu marathon in 2 hours, 14 minutes, 35 seconds for his first victory since the 2007 Chicago Marathon.

Despite high temperatures Hillary Kimaiyo of Kenya won the Marathon Powerade Monterrey with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 54 seconds. Kimaiyo's time was the fastest run on Mexican soil and the third fastest run in North American this year.

Cardiologist John Dieck stated that most of the deaths in marathons over the past year were more than likely a result of having a pre-existing heart condition that may have been undiagnosed. Regardless Dieck stresses that there are some precautions that should take place before racing the 26.2 mile distance

Most men hit a magical age of 50 or 60 and seek to acquire a new car or a new woman. Larry Macon of San Antonio was unable to find either and so he took up running. Over the past five years he has logged four hundred and seventeen marathons.

   Cox makes Rocket City win a reality (The Huntsville Times)
Josh Cox cast off his shirt nearly twenty minutes into the Rocket City Marathon. Cox would go on to win the thirty-second annual event by over two minutes with a time of 2 hours and 21 minutes.

Jill Horst of Rome Georgia won the womens Rocket City Marathon title with a time of 2 hours and 48 minutes. Josh Cox ran with the lead pack until mile eighteen when he broke away from the pack to win the overall marathon title

   Cheboi wins Kass Marathon (Daily Nation)
Sunday’s Kass Marathon in Eldoret was won by James Cheboi with a time of 2 hours 19 minutes and 29 seconds to finish eight seconds up on runner up Wilson Meli, who ran 2 hours 19 minutes and 37 seconds.
