At one point he was in fourth place and almost one minute behind the leader before catching the fading leaders. The med-student secured his first win despite not having a lot of time for training.

The Red Cross and others are using the race as a disaster preparedness drill this coming weekend. The police and fire crews will be practicing in case of hurricanes, terrorist attacks or other such emergencies.
		Sonja Friend-Uhl plans to run 5K at Marathon of the Palm Beaches while 6 months pregnant (Palm Beach Post) Sonja Friend-Uhl, 37, will run the 5K race, rather than make the attempt at defending her marathon title from last year. The six-month pregnant Uhl ran last years race despite the death of her brother just a few weeks earlier and she will run the 5K for her and the new life about to begin.

	London Marathon

		Radcliffe, Ndereba Return to Star-Studded London Marathon (Race Results Weekly) Paula Radcliffe and Catherine Ndereba were announced among the elite female runners in the 2009 London Marathon.
		Radcliffe to return in bid for 4th London Marathon title (International Herald Tribune) Paula Radcliffe won the London Marathon in 2002, 2003 and 2005. She will attempt to tie the four win record by Norway's Ingrid Kristiansen, who won the London Marathon four times between 1984 and 1988. The April 26th race will include three other former London Marathon winners including defending Irina Mikitenko of Germany.

		Otter Creek Park to close as part of budget cuts : Marathon may be on it's final days. (Courier-Journal) Mayor Jerry Abramson has planned a twenty million dollar budget cut due to tough financial times. The Otter Creek Park owned by Louisville loses about half a million dollars per yer. This years marathon may be the last held on the trail system.

		Surf City USA Marathon Impacts the World (International Buisiness Tribune) The Free Wheelchair Mission is once again teaming up with some 17,000 runners in the Surf City USA Marathon to give wheel chairs throughout the world. The hopeful outcome of the race is to raise $600,000 and 11,600 wheelchairs.

		Register for city trip to Lake Placids Marathon (Salem Gazette Wicked Local) The Lake Placid parks and recreation department is offering a complete package for a tune up marathon for the weekend of June 12 through 15. The all inclusive package will also include a tour of the 1980 Olympic facilities as well as a guided course tour and accommodations.

		Las Vegas Marathon on new course (Las Vegas Sun) Terry Collier, race director, will relinquish control of the Las Vegas Marathon after Sunday's race to Competitor Group Inc. The new owners will try to rectify many of the financial woes that the former owner, Devine Racing, seems to have struggled with in the past few years.

		Miami Marathon & Half Marathon Registrations Up Nearly 20 Percent Over Last Year (Pitch Engine) The Miami Marathon is fast approaching it's limit of 15,000 registered runners with just over nine weeks to go. The race, to be held on Sunday, January 25 has a discounted entry fee for those who register before Thursday, December 10.

		10K specialist Manipol-Fetalvero wins Milo Marathon in first try (GMA News) Mercedita Manipol-Fetalvero has won every local 10K since 1998 and her marathon debut appeared to follow suit with her winning ways. Manipol-Fetalvero won the National Milo Marathon with a time of 2 hours 58 minutes and 38 minutes.
	Pune International Marathon

		John Nada Saya to be the star attraction in Pune Marathon (My News) Tanzanian John Nada Saya is the hopeful favorite for the twenty-third Vodafone International Marathon to be held on December 7th. Saya ran a marathon in Joon with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes and is expected to lead the Tanzanian team for the forty-two kilometer race.
	Saipan Marathon

		Saipan Marathon all set for January (Saipan Tribune) January 17 will mark the starting date of the Saipan Marathon along Micro Beach. The thirty-five dollar entry fee and the 4 am beach start is expected to attract local and international runners. There will be a course tour and pasta dinner on the sixteenth of January for all registered runners.

		Asfaw, 2:09 and Timofeyeva, 2:26, secure Shanghai Marathon titles (IAAF.org) Twenty-thousand runners hit the starting line for the thirteenth annual Shanghai International Marathon. Gashaw Asfaw of Ethiopia recorded a new course record with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 28 seconds. Russian Irina Timofeyeva won the womens race win in 2 hours 26 minutes and 19 seconds.
	Space Coast Marathon

		Woods, Middlebrooks capture breezy Space Coast Marathon (Florida Today) Ryan Woods,29, of Boone North Carolina took control of the 37th Annual Space Coast Marathon at the eleven mile mark and would hold of Mike Hensley by only 32 seconds. Woods finished in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 22 seconds.

	Beirut Marathon

		Shumye obliterates Beirut Marathon record (IAAF) Alemayehu Shumye called out his Beirut Marathon victory two days prior to the race. Not only did Shumye win the marathon in 2 hours 12 minutes and 47 seconds, he smashed the previous course record and won by over three minutes.
	Dallas Marathon (formerly the Dallas White Rock Marathon)

		Marcus Grunewald, executive director of White Rock Marathon (Dallas Morning News) Marcus Grunewald was doing a lot of number crunching before he became the Dallas White Rock Marathon's race director. 	Mississippi Coast Marathon

		Wingate wins Gulf Coast marathon at Stennis Space Center (Sun Herald) Leonard Vergunst, race director, was pleased with the six-hundred people who showed up for the rainy and windy Gulf Coast Marathon. Despite the conditions, Brandon Wingate won the overall marathon with a time of 2 hours 45 minutes and 43 seconds.
	Seattle Marathon

		Seattle Marathon claimed by 2 first-time winners (Seattle Post Intelligencer) Over 12400 runners took place in the 38th running of the Seattle Marathon. Record participation also provided two first time winners. Stuart Burton of Beaverton Oregon, and Annie Thiessen of Tacoma won the men's and women's marathons respectively.
		Seattle Marathon: Thiessen triumphs again (Seattle Times) Annie Thiessen won the Seattle Marathon in 3 hours, 2 minutes, 6 seconds. She won by nearly one minute. Seattle marks yet another victory for Thiessen including Yakima River Canyon,Whidbey Island, Tacoma City, Olympia's Capital City and the Newport Marathon.
