Its participants are no less passionate, but the Austin Marathon has had to cut its budget due to the economy. There will be no prize money this year, and no elite international runners, since AT&T pulled out of its sponsorship agreement after last year's race.

   Juggling act keeps him on the run at Pensacola Marathon (Pensacola News Journal)
Joe Salter will run. He will also juggle. All while running the Pensacola Marathon on Sunday. The joggling sport is catching on and Michael Kapral set the world record for joggling a marathon at the 2006 Boston Marathon with a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 6 seconds.

Ryan Hall will begin his 2009 season in Tampa, Florida, at the Gasparilla Distance Classic 15-K. He'll use the race to test himself prior to the Boston Marathon on April 20th, and aim for a new personal record.

The inaugural Integrated Medical Services Arizona Marathon will be run this weekend from Goodyear to Glendale.

   Cuban Runner, Coach Defect in Uruguay (Inquirer.net)
According to Uruguayan authorities, Cuban marathoner Aguelmis Rojas has apparently defected, along with his coach, Rafael Diaz. Rojas was in Uruguay with a number of other Cuban runners as part of a sports exchange program.

   Lewa Marathon Countdown Begins (The Standard)
Organizers of the upcoming 10th annual Safaricom Marathon, held at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, hope to raise even more more for deserving Kenyan projects than in previous years. The field will include international champions Paul Tergat and Catherine Ndereba.

   5 questions about Antarctica marathon (Concord Monitor)
David Bryan of Concord, age 45, will participate in The Last Marathon next month in Antarctica, along with 150 other runners. He said that the windy weather of late in New Hampshire has helped him prepare, at least somewhat, for the weather that awaits him in Antarctica.

   On course for Boston marathon (Boston Globe)
Kara Goucher is running the women's 3,000 meter race tonight at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games, but her real focus is on the upcoming Boston Marathon. After running the 3,000m tonight, she will run the last 20 miles of the marathon course for training tomorrow.

   Melbourne marathon a hit (Florida Today)
Nearly 1,500 runners participated in the inaugural Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon. The men's race was won comfortably by Paul McRae of Jacksonville, whose time of 2:50:20 put him nearly 9 minutes ahead of Joe Palmer, in second place. Bethany Heslam of North Port won the women's marathon by a margin nearly as wide, finishing in 3:18:45 to Dana Gross-Rode's second-place 3:26:56.
 
 Hong Kong Marathon

   RI claims second place, award in Hong Kong Marathon (Jakarta Post)
In the Hong Kong Greatest Race on Earth marathon, which aggregates team members' times to determine a team winner, the Indonesian women's team kept their second-place standing from last year, with a net time of 12:29:35, four minutes behind winners Sri Lanka. Kenya won the men's division with a time of 8:59:49, more than 25 minutes ahead of second-place Uguanda.
 
   Kenyan athletes triumph at Hong Kong marathon (GEO TV)
Cyprian Mwobi of Kenya, after finishing a close sencond in the Hong Kong Marathon last year, beat out all challengers this year with a time of 2:14:57. His compatriot, Winnie Nyansikera, won the women's marathon by more than 6 minutes with a time of 2:41:25.

 Myrtle Beach Marathon

   Record breaker to join Myrtle Beach Marathon (The Sun News)
Zola Budd Pieterse of South Africa, 42, who was a controversial figure when she broke onto the running scene at age 17, plans to run in the MYrtle Beach Marathon on Sunday. Budd Pieterse gained British citizenship in order to run internationally at age 17, since her native South Africa was banned for its apartheid policies. Several of the records she set early in her career remain unbroken today.

   Report Urges Changes for USA Track & Field (New York Times)
A committee of experts convened by USA Track & Field to study ways to improve the American program has released a report calling for a number of changes to the sport. These include forming an athlete union, lessening the power of agents and sponsors, and limiting the Olympic trial process to five days rather than 10.

   Lebopo and Moyo take marathon victories in eThekwini (IAAF)
Last year's champion, Mabuthile Lebopo of Lesotho, won the Nedbank South Africa Marathon Championships in a time of 2:13:42, beating out a personal best of 2:15:11 from South African Enos Matalane. On the women's side, Samukeliso Moyo of Zimbabwe pulled out a dramatic victory in 2:43:11, only breaking away from Mamorolla Tjoka of Lesotho (2:43:29) in the last 50 meters.
 
 Sarasota Marathon The Grouper Run

   Sarasota Marathon Sees Some Changes This Year (Mysuncoast.com)
The Sarasota Grouper Marathon will be held earlier this year, and feature improved monitoring and verification. Registration is down, however, and organizers believe the economy is to blame.

   Women's half-marathon winner in Critz Tybee Marathon turns on the gas, after finding a parking place (Savannah Morning News)
Megan Feasel won the inaugural Critz Tybee Run Half Marathon women's race by about 90 seconds with her time of 1:30:11, beating Ale Kennedy's 1:31:49. Feasel said the only difficulty she had was finding a parking space in time for the start of the race.
 
 Hong Kong Marathon

   Kenyan Mwobi wins Hong Kong Marathon with new record (China View)
Cyprian Kiogora Mwobi of Kenya won the Hong Kong Marathon 2009 men's race with a new course record of 2 hours 14 minutes and 57 seconds. Winnie Frida Kwamboka Nyansik took the women's title with a time of 2 hours 41 minutes and 25 seconds.
 
 London Marathon

   London marathon on Kibet schedule (BBC)
Luke Kibet, 25-year-old world marathon champion from Kenya, will be running in this year's London Marathon. Thsi will be his only race this year before his title defense in Berlin, in August.
 
 Myrtle Beach Marathon

   Myrtle Beach Marathon steps up to go green (The Sun News)
The Myrtle Beach Marathon is improving on a relatively "green race". The race offered online registration for it's six-thousand participants. Roughly twenty of the registrants used a mail-in hard copy.
