 Honolulu Marathon

   Honolulu Marathon generates more than $100M (Honolulu Advertisor)
Despite a smaller than usual number of runners, the 2008 Honolulu Marathon generated an estimated $100 million in visitor spending, as well as $4 million in state tax revenues.

   RAK Half Generates Two Pending World Records at Intermediate Points (Race Results Weekly)
The 2009 RAK International Marathon did not result in a new half marathon record, but pending review, world records at two intermediate points were set: by Deribe Merga, who passed the 15km point in 41:29, and winner Patrick Makau, who ran the first 20km 55:38.

The top men and women at the thrid annual RAK Half Marathon recorded the sort of fast times that the race's organizers were hoping for, setting a number of personal bests. Patrick Makau won the men's race with the second-fastest half marathon time ever.

   Boston Marathon Completes Elite Field (Race Results Weekly)
The Boston Marathon has announced its elite field for the 2009 race. In addition to the previously announced Ryan Hall, Kara Goucher, Evans Cheruiyot and Dire Tune, the race will feature Deribe Merga, Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot, Stephen Kiogora, Brian Sell, Lidia Grigoryeva and Galina Bogomolova, among others.

   Runner uses A1A Marathon in Fort Lauderdale as tuneup for six-day marathon in Sahara Desert (Sun Sentinel)
The A1A marathon will start at 6 am on Sunday morning. Mandy Miller and Linda O'Brien will have already run the 26.2 mile course once that day in preparation for the 151 mile race in the Sahara.

   New Design Selected for Official Poster of the 2009 ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon (Pitch Engine)
The Miami Marathon has released the design for the 2009 Marathon Poster. Savannah College of Art and Design student, Michael Albuquerque, 27, from Recife, Brazil won the contest this year and is a repeat winner as his design was selected for the 2008 design.
 
 Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon

   Organisers revise Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon route (The Guardian)
Event director, John Addison, has revised the Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon route to include the Moshi-Arusha highway and exclude the Moshi-Dar es Salaam highway. This will allow for a much better view of the mountain along the route and for a more spectator friendly race.

   Traffic delays expected during Okinawa Marathon (Stars and Stripes)
Kadena Air Base in Okinawa will host just under two miles of the annual marathon. Residents of the base should be expecting traffic delays while the race is underway. Pedestrian traffic will not be hampered.

   Nashville Country Music Marathon makes big change (The Tennessean)
The cotton t-shirt has seen better days and the Country Music Marathon is adding to its demise. The famous 26.2 mile race along the streets of Nashville will be switching to moisture wicking technical fabric for its 2009 t-shirt design.

While the RAK Half Marathon offers a total of $400,000 in prize money, the most of any half marathon in the world, there are some limits on it. Athletes must break certain times in order to receive the entire amount, and in addition, 10% of prizes will be donated to charity.

The Bjorklund Half Marathon, held in conjunction with Grandma's Marathon, will open registration at 12:01 AM. Wednesday and continues through 8 AM. on March 2. The lottery system will select 4500 participants for the 13.1 mile road race.
 
 Great Ocean Road Marathon

   Great Ocean Road Marathon gets Asian influence (Geelong Advertiser)
The Event Director of the Festival of Distance Running, John Craven, stated the events marathon is up to eighty percent capacity for the fifth annual marathon to be held on May 17 and is boasting a fifty-thousand dollar prize purse.

   New York City Marathon lottery opens Thursday. (The Dallas News)
The lottery for the New York City Marathon will open at 11 am on Thursday February 19th. More than 105,000 people applied for the lottery for the 2008 marathon. This years marathon will take place on November 1 and is expected to reach capacity well before the race date.

   Former Olympian to Make North Carolina Marathon Appearances (The High Point Enterprise)
Olympic marathon gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson will be one of the highlights to the North Carolina Marathon which begins at Showplace on May 2. The former marathon world record holder will be the keynote speaker at the pasta dinner.

   Craig `Buster' Mottram Eyes Marathon Distance (Herald Sun)
After failing to reach the finals in the Beijing Olympics in the 5000 meter race, Craig Mottram is setting his sights on the marathon distance but only after the London Games of 2012. His race schedule will be more intense leading up to the World Games in August.
 
   Set New Goals, Take Time to Recover after Marathon (The Statesman)
Greg McMillan, a nationally known distance coach based in Flagstaff Arizona suggest taking two days off completely after the marathon race. This should allow for some immediate recovery and the "delayed onset muscle soreness" to subside.

 Austin Marathon

   Pishny wins Austin Marathon women's race (Austin 360)
Elle Pishny came to Austin to visit her recently relocated sister and went home a marathon winner. Pishny won the womens marathon title with a time of taking first place in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 32 seconds, a personal best, but still 16 minutes slower than last years womens winning time.
 
   Chicago's Borling top finisher in Austin Marathon (Austin 360)
Jeremy Borling recalled his college coach's wisdom to run his own race and let the lead pack of half marathon runners go ahead of him in the first mile of the marathon. Borling would go on to win his first marathon with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes and 5 seconds.
