Leah Thorvilson took the early lead and was shocked to to win the Little Rock Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 25 seconds. Thorvilson had finished second in two prior Little Rock Marathons and was stunned to take home the title this year.

Haile Gebrselassie, the marathon world record holder, came to the Fortis City-Pier-City Half-Marathon hoping to reclaim the half marathon world record from Sammy Wanjiryu, but lost in an upset to Sammy Kitwara of Kenya. Catherine N'Dereba finished second in the women's race to Pauline Wangui.
