   Marchers Take To The Sand To Honor Veterans At Bataan Memorial Death March (Las Cruces Sun-news)
It commemorates a grim chapter in World War II history, when in 1942, thousands of American and Filipino soldiers were surrendered at the Bataan peninsula in the Philippines and then made to march for miles through rugged terrain with little food water or medical care. Among the prisoners were 1,800 New Mexico National Guard members. Many died during the march or in the years to come in death camps.
