The Lago Maggiore Half Marathon will feature a strong field this year, including Nicholas Manza Kamyaka (1:00:12 PB), Denis Ndiso (1:00:33), and Jacob Yator (1:01:09), all of Kenya, as well as Anikó Kálovics (1:08:58) on the women's side. A new course record is a distinct possibility.

   Krum runner wins third straight Cowtown Marathon (Dallas News)
Keith Pierce smashed the course record for the Cowtown Marathon, which he set in 2007, by nearly five minutes as he led almost eighteen thousand runners in Saturdays running events. Pierce won the overall men's title with a time of 2 hours 25 minutes and is the first person to win three consecutive Cowtown marathon race titles.
 
 Dallas Marathon (formerly the Dallas White Rock Marathon)

   Heart Condition Caused White Rock Marathon Runner's Death (Dallas Morning News)
According to the Dallas County medical examiner's office, cardiac arrhythmia was the cause of death for Erin Lahr, the 29-year-old runner who collapsed and died during the 2009 Dallas White Rock Marathon.
 
 El Paso Marathon

   El Paso Marathon: 26-mile test (El Paso Times)
Participation in the third annual El Paso Marathon events produced record numbers despite the wind-swept course and chilly temperatures. Over fifteen hundred runners clamored through the streets of El Paso led by Patrick Flores who won the overall marathon title.
 
   Patrick Flores wins El Paso Marathon (El Paso Times)
Nearly sixteen hundred runners participated in the third annual El Paso Marathon. Patrick Flores, 44, built only a one minute lead by mile twenty but pulled away to earn the overall marathon title.

The Fargo Marathon is about 2,000 entrants ahead of last year's race, which drew 13,000 runners, and continuing to grow; the four-person Marathon Relay event is proving especially popular.

   No One Challenges Kraft in Gasparilla Marathon (MSNBC)
Nina Kraft of Germany seemed to power through the wet and rainy conditions of the Gasparilla Marathon on Sunday. Kraft, who has won Iron Man races in Florida and Brazil was the overall women's marathon winner with a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 40 seconds and placed fourth overall.
 
   Miramar Man Overcomes Wind, Rain To Win Gasparilla Marathon (MSNBC)
Ronnie Holassie fought through wind, rain and chilly temperatures to win his second Gasparilla Marathon title with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 56 seconds. He was nearly fifteen minutes faster than runner-up Chad Byler of Rochester New York
 
 Kilimanjaro Marathon

   Kenyan runners dominate Kilimanjaro marathon (The Citizen)
Kenyan runners dominated the series of long distance events at the Kilimanjaro marathon. Kenyan Johson Kibet won the mens marathon title while Patrick Nyangero of Tanzania finished in second place.
 
 Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon

   Tergat bags Biwa Marathon (The Standard)
Jose Rios of Spain fell behind Kenyan Paul Tergat in the final mile of the sixty-fourth Lake Biwa Marathon. Tergats winning time of 2 hours 10 minutes was well off his normally faster marathon race times.

   Firefighter to burn up London Marathon course (Bromley Times)
Stuart Crispin, 32, will aim to beat the world record for fastest marathon time in full fire-fighting gear, which currently stands at fiave and a half hours. Crispin is running to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, in memory of his friend Mark, who died of cystic fibrosis in 2001.
 
 Malta Marathon

   Cuelemans braves rocky conditions to claim victory at Malta Marathon (Times of Malta)
Rik Cuelemans took first palce at the Malta Marathon with a time of 2:25:59, wlel ahead of second-place finisher Jason Martin, who came in with a PR time of 2:33:30. In the women's race, Carmen Hili held her title, with a time of 3:00:12, barely missing her target of breaking under 3 hours.
 
   Land Rover Malta Marathon: Belgium’s Rick Cuelemans wins ahead of Maltese runners Jason Martin and Richard Chetcuti (Malta Independent)
Rik Cuelemans of Belgium won the Malta Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2:25:59, beating out two Maltese runners, Jason Martin and Richard Chetcuti. Martin and Chetcuti, who finished in 2:33:30 and 2:35, respectively, are both members of Mellieha AC, a Maltese Athletic Club.
 
 Marathon Catalunya - Barcelona

   Teacher Dies From Heart Attack During Marathon (Irish Independent News)
A 27-year-old Irish grade school teacher and enthusiastic amateur athlete collapsed and died from an apparent heart attack during the 21st mile of the Marathon Cataluyna Barcelona.
 
 Napa Valley Marathon
  Post-Race Review/ Results
   Gilmore wins wet one at Napa Valley Marathon (Napa Valley Register)
Peter Gilmore of San Mateo took first place in the 31st Napa Valley Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2:23:04, comfortably beating second-place Andy Martin's time of 2:27:22. Gilmore trailed Martin for more than half the course, but finally overtook him near Mile 15.

   Mega-Marathon to Sprint Through Vietnam (Look at Vietnam)
The Vietnam Athletics Federation announced that in 2010 it will hold the largest-ever international marathon in Vietnamese history, with the sponsorship of Malaysian firm Octogon.

   Ugandan marathon runners come of age (Daily Monitor)
Uganda's marathon runners, from being represented on the international stage by Alex Malinga alone, have elevated their level of competition to the point of finishing only 30 minutes behind the winning Kenyan team in the just finished Greatest Race on Earth (GROE) series. The Ugandan Athletics Federation also announced plans to field a women's team in next year's GROE.

Runners will have an option to run at least nine different marathons during the month of may in three states that include Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. The addition of two marathons this year in Stillwater and Minneapolis have some race officials asking how many is too many?

   Race Director Dave McGillivray Won't Run Sixth Marathon of Palm Beaches (Palm Beach Post)
Dave McGillivray, the race director of the Marathon of the Palm Beaches in each of its first five years as well as the director of the Boston Marathon, has decided not to return for a sixth event. The Marathon of the Palm Beaches was recently acquired by Devine Racing, the firm that previously ran the Los Angeles and Las Vegas Marathons.

Despite temperatures in the thirty degreen range and fifty mile an hour winds Jared Crave,35, of Asheville won the Black Mountain Marathon for the second time with a time of 3 hours, 21 minutes and 11 seconds.

Race organizers are suggesting that you don't wait until the March fifteenth race weekend to sign up for the long distance events as many of the races will be filled to capacity and not accepting any further registrations.

Colin Dunne of Ireland died while participating in the 2009 Barcelona Marathon. Medical staff attended to the twenty-seven year old who went down at about the 34.5 kilometer mark of the marathon
