Paula Radcliffe had given a frank appraisal of the state of men's running in Britain - and it was not favorable. By winning, Mara Yamauchi has offered up an implicit challenge to British men as the British women are seeing strong success.

After finishing as runner-up at the 2009 London Marathon, Mara Yamauchi is predicting a one-two finish (her and Paula Radclife) for the British at the Berlin World Championships Marathon.

Samuel Kamau Wanjiru added the London Marathon victory to his Olympics Marathon victory by winning the 2009 London Marathon in course record time of 2:05:10.
 
   Mara Yamauchi proves there's more to British running than Paula Radcliffe (The Telegraph)
Mara Yamauchi set a big personal best to finish second at the London Marathon in 2:23:12. Yamauchi's finish makes her the first Briton other than Paula Radcliffe to land on the London Marathon podium since 1998.

   Kenyan Matui takes Country Music Marathon title (The Tennessean)
Amos Matui, 33, of Kenya made his marathon debut in America by winning the Country Music Marahton with a time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 41 seconds. Matui took the lead for good with less than one mile to go.
 
 Rock 'n' Roll Madrid Marathon
  Post-Race Review/ Results
   Yaseen and Sizmaz are successful at Madrid Marathon (IAAF)
Bahrain's Khalid Kamal Yaseen won the Madrid Marathon in 2:14:31. Mehtap Sizmaz of Turkey was the first female finisher in a course record of 2:32:04.
 
 Tel Aviv Marathon

   Kenyan Takes Tel Aviv Marathon (The Jerusalem Post)
Daniel Kones, Kenya, won the Tel Aviv marathon with a timeo 2 hours 38 minute and 6 seconds. He was among over twelve hundred runners who participated in the city's first marathon in over 15 years.

   Runner dies in Nashville (Country Music) half-marathon (Knoxville News Sentinel)
One of the runners in the Country Music Marathon Half Marathon collapsed and died during the race. At the time of this posting, the name of the participant had not been released.
 
   Morning reports from the Country Music Marathon (The Tennessean)
Amos Matui of Kenya ran 2:13:40 to winn both the Country Music Marathon and the "Battle of the Sexes" competition at the race - as women were given a fifteen minute headstart to be chased down by the men. Ttitana Pushkareva of Russia was the first woman in 2:36:43.

   Chicago Marathon closes registration (Journal Sentinel)
The 2009 edition of the famed Chicago Marathon closed its doors to further registrations having reached its capacity of 45,000 runners for the October 11 race. Last year 31,343 runners finished the 26.2 mile distance.

   The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon has a new name (Cincinati Enquirer)
Procter & Gamble has entered into a major sponsorship agreement with the Cincinati Flying Pig Marathon. The 26.2 mile race, which is now powered by P&G, will stamp it's logo all over the course and through the weekend events.
