		Indiana's Mescal wins Andrew Jackson marathon (Jacson Sun) With about six miles to go, Indiana's Jeff Mescal believed he could run a personal best marathon and win the race. His time of 2 hours 45 minutes and 32 seconds was nearly 7 minutes ahead of a fading Josh Hite from Cookeville Tennessee.

(The Boston Globe) A few hours after her credible, if not frustrating, third place finish at the 113th Boston Marathon, Kara Goucher was reportedly trying to persuade her coach to let her enter the London Marathon with less than 5 days of rest.
		Orillia runner sets world mark in Boston Marathon (National Post) Rick Ball set a world mark for single-leg amputees competing with the able-bodied competitors at the 113th Boston Marathon on Monday. He bested Amy Winters Mark by more than two minutes. Richard Whitehead, a double leg amputee, holds the world mark with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes.

		Van Dyk wins eighth Boston Marathon (The Times) Ernst van Dyk of South Africa won his eighth Boston Marathon in 1 hour 33 minutes and 29 seconds on Monday. van Dyk was nearly 2 kilometers ahead of Japans Masazumi Soejima when he crossed the finish line.

		Gouchers Boston Marathon Finish: A Real Endorsement (CNBC) Kara Goucher faded to third place in the final few hundred meters of the Boston Marathon. She was there in large part to the Nike Orgon Project. Winning might have been the largest endorsement for the "swoosh" logo company.

		Cheruiyot, Tune eventually wither in weather (The Boston Globe) Three time Boston Marathon, and defending, champion Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot could not withstand the weather and a nagging back problem that would cause the hopeful winner to drop out of the marathon near the 25 kilometer mark. He and the women's defending champion, Dire Tune, who would finish second in the women's race by one second, were both taken to the hospital.
		De Reuck masters the Boston Marathon course (Boston Globe) Colleen De Reuck, a mother of two, ran an amazingly strong Boston Marathon on Monday. The 45-year old and four-time Olympian ran a time of 2 hours 35 minutes and 37 seconds to win the masters division of the race and finishing in eighth place overall.

		Sales of Marathon goods still strong (Boston Globe) With the US economy still hurting, consumers were still spending their money at the three-day John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo preceding the 2009 Boston Marathon, some purchasing once in a lifetime Boston Marathon memorabilia. Expo sales projections comes on the heels of the biggest drop in US consumer spending in twenty-eight years at the end of 2008. 26,400 registered participants also have been stimulating the economy paying the $110 race registration fee and $250 per night for a hotel room.

		Brian Sell hopes to repeat 2006 feat (Detroit Free Press) In his first big marathon following the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Brian Sell is aiming for a 2:10 finish. Sell, feeling fit, knows that a fourth place finish may be difficult in a deep field, but looks forward to a strong finish. Hansons-Brooks Distance Project has a number of other runners participating in the marathon as well - Luke Humphrey, Todd Snyder, Kyle O'Brien, Fred Joslyn and Pat Rizzo.

		Engle breaks the tape at Charlottesville Marathon (Daily Progress) Chuck Engle of Dublin Ohio had something to prove Saturday at the Charlottesville Marathon. He finished second in 2006 after battling for much of the race only to fade over the heat and hills. He came back to run the course in 2 hours 38 minutes and 57 seconds to cruise to a nearly ten minute victory.

		Chicago Marathon closes registration (Journal Sentinel) The 2009 edition of the famed Chicago Marathon closed its doors to further registrations having reached its capacity of 45,000 runners for the October 11 race. Last year 31,343 runners finished the 26.2 mile distance.

		The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon has a new name (Cincinati Enquirer) Procter & Gamble has entered into a major sponsorship agreement with the Cincinati Flying Pig Marathon. The 26.2 mile race, which is now powered by P&G, will stamp it's logo all over the course and through the weekend events.

		Eugene Marathon organizers expect more participants this year (The Register-Guard) The Eugene Marathon, slated for May 3rd, is expecting more than seven thousand runners. Race director Richard Maher said that there are ten countries and forty-three states represented in this years field.

		Marathoners set course records at Go! St. Louis Marathon (St. Louis Dispatcher) Zac Freudenburg and Megan Earney set course records at the Go! St. Louis Marathon in muddier than usual conditions. Freudenberg won in a 2:23:57, beating defending champion two-time winner two-time winner and former men's record holder Karl Gilpin by almost three minutes. 2:51:20, breaking the women's course record of 2:52:38 set in 2007 by Christine Ensign.

		Haven't registered for the Lincoln Marathon? You're too late (Journal Star) Thirty-one years ago nearly 400 runners ran the first Lincoln Marathon. Last week the race reached capacity with six-thousand, five-hundred runners. Nancy Sutton, race director, decided to cap the event last year when 100 runners signed up the day before the event.

		Yamauchi validates rigorous work ethic (Guardian) Paula Radcliffe had given a frank appraisal of the state of men's running in Britain - and it was not favorable. By winning, Mara Yamauchi has offered up an implicit challenge to British men as the British women are seeing strong success.
