 Air Force Marathon

   United States Air Force Marathon volunteer registration begins Friday (Greene County Dailies)
Friday May 1st marks the beginning of volunteer registration for the 13th Annual Air Force Marathon which takes place on September 19. Volunteers for the approximately ten-thousand person race will number in the two-thousand person range. Race events include a 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon.
 
 Belfast City Marathon

   Belfast Marathon smashes all entry records (Athletics Ireland)
The Belfast Marathon has signed up more than seventeen thousand participants for the most successful turnout in race history. More than twenty-nine hundred marathon runners will be joined by over two-thousand 5-person relay teams

   Overcoming barriers, Cleveland Marathon officials settle on May 17 race course (Cleveland Sports)
The Cleveland Marathon has settled on an updated course for the May 17th marathon. Vision Event Management has adjusted the course so that the typically long stretch just past mile 13 will head east on Marginal Road toward University Circle and hopefully allow runners the opportunity to run with the wind and give them a little extra push.

   Volunteers Needed for Eau Claire Marathon (WQOW)
Sunday the third of May will mark the kick off for the Eau Claire marathon, half-marathon, and 2-mile fun run. Volunteers are needed to support the more than one-thousand runners who have signed up for the various running events.

   Eugene marathon organizers take precautions against swine flu. (KMTR)
The Eugene Marathon will only pass out pre-packaged gel for refueling the five-thousand runners from forty-five states that will participate in the running events on the weekend. Eight doctors and twenty-five nurses will be on hand to monitor runners with bio-hazard kits that offer a chemical that kills the swine flu.

   Rwanda: U.S.$23,200 Cash Prize for Kigali International Marathon (All Africa.com)
The fifth edition of the Kigali International Marathon has staked over twenty-three thousand U.S. dollars in prize money. The male and female winners will run away with two-thousand dollars with fifteen hundred and twelve hundred going to the first and second runners-up.

Due in part to support from Investors Savings Bank, opportunities for participating in the events surrounding the New Jersey Marathon have been expanded to include the Long Branch Half Marathon and Family Fun Races. The sponsorship opens opportunities for children from 2 to 12 years of age.

   Swine flu scare hits close to home (TRIBUNE-REVIEW)
Businesses in the Pittsburgh area have cut travel into Mexico in light of the recent swine flu pandemic that has now claimed at least one life. Dr. Roth, medical director for the Pittsburgh Marathon, says that emergency professionals will have on gloves and masks could be worn by the medical staff on the course.

Officials for the Pittsburgh Marathon are hoping that Mother Nature supplies ideal conditions for the race. Early forecasts are calling for a twenty percent chance of rain and overcast skies. Ideal conditions for marathon runners according to race organizers.

   Alfred Debono sets new over 60 marathon record time at Zurich Marathon (The Malta Independent)
Alfred Debono set a new record for the over sixty marathon at the Zurich Marathon on Sunday. His time of 3 hours 1 minute and 6 seconds was his second national record. He also holds the half-marathon record of 1 hour 25 minutes and 25 seconds.
 
 London Marathon

   Injured soldier resumes London Marathon (BBC News)
Major Phil Packer, 36, was told the he would never walk again after being paralyzed during a rocket attack while stationed in Iraq. He will complete the London Marathon at the pace of about 2 miles an hour while raising money for the charity Help for Heroes.
 
 Nagano Olympic Commemorative Marathon

   Breakthrough time for Tola and Ozaki? – Nagano Marathon preview (IAAF)
Isaac Macharia, Kenyan, and Irina Timofeyeva, Russia, are among the pre-race favorites to win the Nagano Marathon on Sunday. They will be challenged by Girma Tola of Ethiopia in the men's race and Akemi Ozaki of Japan in the women's race.

   Mikitenko, Wanjiru take commanding lead on World Marathon Majors leader board (Athletics)
Irina Mikitenko, Germany, and Samuel Wanjir, Kenya, took home a big prize money purse at Sunday's London Marathon and also extended their lead in the World Marathon Majors leader board. A win in the six race series would be worth one half of a million dollars for each athlete.
 
 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon

   Collapsed Oklahoma Marathon runner doing fine (KFOR)
Jenny Graef, 23, running in her third marathon, collapsed at mile 22 while leading the race. Roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes into the race she began to feel that something was really wrong.
 
   Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon: Amputee gives hope to runner (The Oklahoman)
Amy Palmeiro-Winters put aside any of her own goals for Sunday's Oklahoma City Marathon and guided 12-year-old Kelli Odle, who has spina bifida, to a 4 hour and 25 minute marathon. Winters, who has a prosthesis on her left leg, pushed Odle, who has completed many 5 -kilometer races in her wheel chair, through the entire 26.2 mile course.

 Big Sur International Marathon

   Runners Face Windy Conditions in Big Sur Marathon (KION)
The tough course at the Big Sur Marathon in Carmel was made even more difficult by strong winds that plagued runners over the 26.2 mile course. Ryan Hafer was the overall top performer with a time of 2 hours 32 minutes and 17 seconds.
 
   Hafer wins men's race; Coordt takes women's at Big Sur marathon (The Salinas Californian)
Ryan Hafer crossed the finish line first at the Disney World Marathon last year. With no chip on his shoe, he recorded no official time. At the Big Sur Marathon he was sure to have his chip firmly attached as he was the first across the finish line with the slowest winning time since the inaugural marathon.
 
 Glass City Marathon

   History is made at the 33rd Glass City Marathon (Toledo on the Move)
Nearly 2000 runners participated in the 2009 Glass City Marathon in Toledo, Ohio. Matt Folk, the pre-race favorite from Oregon,Ohio took overall honors in the men's marathon with a time of 2 hours and 31 minutes.
 
 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon

   Danny Fisher wins Kentucky Derby Marathon (The Courier-Journal)
Danny Fisher, 26, of Columbus Indiana won the Kentucky Derby Festival with a time of 2 hours 41 minutes and 32 seconds. Ryan Althaus was nearly 3 minutes behind Fisher to claim second place.
 
 La Crosse Fitness Festival

   Expect Traffic Delays Sunday for La Crosse Marathon (WKBT)
This weekend marks the inaugural La Crosse Marathon and race organizers are hoping that drivers are aware of detours that the race will cause in traffic patterns. The marathon race begins at 8 am on Sunday with police and volunteers in place to help direct the traffic.

   Wanjiru wins, Mikitenko Repeats in London Marathon (Sky Sports)
Sammy Wanjiru set a fierce pace and would take the overall title in the London Marathon with a new course record of 2 hours 5 minutes and 10 seconds. Irinia Mikitenko would take her second consecutive women's overall London Marathon title.
 
   Wanjiru outlasts Kebede in record time at London Marathon (The Independent)
While the London Marathon officials were hoping for a world marathon mark that would best Haile Gebrselassie's time of 2 hours 3 minutes and 59 seconds, they would settle for the fastest time run in London by Sammy Wanjiru. Wanjiru clocked a time of 2 hours 5 minutes and 10 seconds which bested Martin Lel's course record time.
 
 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon

   Both Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon winners were running in first marathon (The Oklahoman)
Catherine O'dell, running in her debut marathon, took the women's marathon top honors in Oklahoma City with a time of 3 hours, 10 minutes. Jordan Kinely won the men's title in his marathon debut as well with a twelve minute margin of victory and a time of 2 hours and 27 minutes. The next four runners were all within five minutes of one another.
 
 Pittsburgh Marathon

   Record 10,500 runners will compete in Pittsburgh Marathon next Sunday (Post-Gazette Now)
For the first time in five years the Pittsburgh Marathon will kick off this Sunday with more than 10,500 participants in the 20th running of the race since 1985. This years overall champions will earn four-thousand dollars for their efforts.
 
 Rock 'n' Roll Country Music Marathon

   Country Music Marathon and Half-Marathon was biggest ever (The Tennessean)
The Country Music Marathon soared to record numbers as over thirty-thousand signed up for the marathon and half-marathon. The only sad record that was set was the death of Benjamin Pigman. This was the first death recorded in the Country Music Marathon
 
 Tresco Marathon

   Runners tackle world's smallest Tresco Marathon (This is Cornwall)
With a starting field of ninety-nine runners, the tenth annual Tresco Marathon raises money for research into cystic fibrosiis. In his debut marathon,Ivan Hollingsworth, 33, of Newcastle, took first place honors with a time of two hours 58, minutes and 57 seconds.
 
 Trestle Valley Marathon

   Gooch gets going in final Trestle Valley Marathon (Minot Daily News)
Jerry Gooch was among five runners who have participated in each of the nine Trestle Valley Marathons in North Dakota. Minot's Harold Pederson won the overall marathon race and has been a yearly participant in the Trestle Valley races for all nine years as well.

Paula Radcliffe had given a frank appraisal of the state of men's running in Britain - and it was not favorable. By winning, Mara Yamauchi has offered up an implicit challenge to British men as the British women are seeing strong success.
 
   YAMAUCHI TARGETS MEDAL IN BERLIN (Sporting Life)
After finishing as runner-up at the 2009 London Marathon, Mara Yamauchi is predicting a one-two finish (her and Paula Radclife) for the British at the Berlin World Championships Marathon.
 
   Wanjiru shakes off Ethiopian to conquer London (The Standard)
Samuel Kamau Wanjiru added the London Marathon victory to his Olympics Marathon victory by winning the 2009 London Marathon in course record time of 2:05:10.
