Matt Baker is off the couch and pounding the pavement in an effort to join his father who will run the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon in Iraq. The B.A.A. is supporting and sanctioning the marathon run in Iraq.
 
   Teens take to Boston Marathon challenge (Metro West Daily News)
Teenage bandits have jumped into the Boston marathon in the past. The numbers are very low as only twenty-eight in 2009 are 18 years of age and another sixty are 19 years of age. Low numbers that seem to speak to the damage that can be done from running extreme distances at such early ages.

Twenty-one year old Vincent Kipruto surged late in the Paris to not only win the 26.2 mile race but set a new course record by 49 seconds. His winning time of 2 hour 5 minutes and 44 seconds.

Twenty-one year old, Vincent Kipruto set a Paris Marathon race record on Sunday by nealy one minute. Kipruto ran the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours 5 minutes and 47 seconds to slide under the old record of Mike Rotich from 2003 of 2 hours 6 minutes and 26 seconds.
 
 Pittsburgh Marathon

   Multitude of runners leads to course changes at Pittsburgh Marathon (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
The May 3rd Pittsburgh marathon opened up fifteen hundred more registration slots and in doing so had to shift the starting line to allow more elbow room for the mass of runner that will bound through the streets of downtown Pittsburgh.
 
   Pittsburgh Marathon changes route (USA TODAY)
Patrice Matamors, race director for the Pittsburgh Marathon, announced a course change for the 26.2 mile race that will open up the first 6 miles of the race and eliminate several tight turns.
 
 Rotterdam Marathon

   Duncan Kibet wins Rotterdam Marathon (USA Today)
Duncan Kibet of Kenya and fellow countryman James Kwambi finished the Rotterdam Marathon with the same time of 2 hours 4 minutes and 27 seconds. Kibet was awarded the win and Kwambi would have to settle for second.
 
   Kibet edges Kwambai as both clock 2:04:27 - Rotterdam Marathon report (IAAF)
The time was officially 2 hours 4 minutes and 27 seconds for Duncan Kibet and compatriot James Kwambi. Kibet edged Kwambi at the tape to win the Rotterdam Marathon with one of the fastest marathon times in history.

Joe Darda and Mary Hanna won the 2009 Yakima River Canyon Marathon.
 
   Ellensburg native Darda wins Yakima River Canyon Marathon (Daily Record)
Joe Darda of Ellensburg, Washington who ran the third fastest time in course history by crossing the tape in 2 hours 35 minutes and 12 seconds.

The Comrades Marathon has pushed back the entry deadline to 6 PM on April 6th. The May 24th marathon had officially closed on March 31st but inquiries have forced organizers to re-open the sign-up process.

The careers of three highly decorated runners will be honored one day prior to the 113th Boston Marathon. Ingrid Kristiansen, Lorraine Moller, and Neil Cusack will take part in the B.A.A. 5K. The first B.A.A. Invitational Mile will take place after with Shalane Flanagan headlining the field of elite women.
 
 Cork City Marathon

   Charleville man wins Cork City Marathon (Irish Examiner)
Michael Herlihy, 28, from Charleville won the annual Cork City Marathon with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes and 36 seconds. The race, which finished on St. Patrick's Street, was used to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.
 
 Eisenhower Marathon

John Yoder is headed to Abilene, Kansas on April 11th with one goal in mind. To win the marathon with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes. Yoder will challenge defending champion Gannon White of Colorado who won the 2008 Eisenhower Marathon in 2 hours and 39 minutes.

Japan has seen a spike in outbound tourism with several airlines boosting capacity for an increase in demand around the time of the July's Gold Coast Marathon. Despite the dismal Japanese economy bookings are on the rise.

Justine Ross,at the age of 16, came up with an idea to get the word out about needing volunteer firefighters. The idea has spawned into 21 volunteer firefighters running Grandma's Marathon many of them first time marathon runners.
