   Traverse City Bayshore Marathon races a big hit (Lansing State Journal)
Memorial Day weekend proved to be a perfect setting for thousands of runners to descend on Traverse City Michigan for running events ranging from the 26.2 mile marathon to a 10K race. Over 4000 runners participated in the weekend events.

Nathan Peters ran in memory of his mother who passed away in 2005 from brain cancer. That much motivation seemed to propel him effortlessly to the win with a time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 47 seconds a mere 50 seconds ahead of Jerome Recker.

The inaugural Bob Potts Heritage Rail Trail Marathon is only five days away. The marathon has 388 registrants and Sean Potts, race director, is about to close the race due to capacity. Online registration closes on Tuesday at midnight.

Near perfect weather conditions greeted runners for the annual Buffalo Marathon. The 2008 runner-up in the marathon Jason Lokwadrm, Kenya, returned to win the 2009 edition with a time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 44 seconds.

Thousands of runners paced themselves through the Queen City Street during the Buffalo Marathon on Sunday. Jason Lokwatom, Kenya, won the men's overall marathon title after finishing in second place in 2008

Three of the top seven overall finishers in the Buffalo Marathon were women. The first of which, Elena Orlova of Russia, broke the course record for women with a finishing time of 2 hours 42 minutes and 44 seconds.

Four wheel chair participants from Orange County finished in the top 15 at the Los Angeles Marathon. Among other notable finishers was Katherine Jobe who won the 90 to 98 age group with a marathon time of 4 hours 56 minutes and 8 seconds.

More than seventeen-thousand people participated in the Los Angeles Marathon on Monday with cool, overcast weather. The main field left downtown Los Angeles at 7:24 am and headed out on the 26.2 mile course used during the 2005 and 2006 marathon, which was called the fastest course in the twenty-four year history.

Olesya and Elena Nurgalieva, twin sisters from Russia, took home the top honors at the Comrades Marathon by claiming first and second place in the woman's overall ultra-marathon race. Their final times were less than one minute apart for the 88 kilometer race

Over one foot of snow has blanketed the base camp of Mt. Everest which will be the starting point for the Tenzing Hillary International Marathon that starts on May 29. Forty-five international participants are set to scale the worlds highest peak the Sir Edmund Hillary first peaked in on the same day in 1953.
